20 cal 55g Tipped BT "Black Hole bullets" Accuracy?

I am going to enter the 20 cal game. I am putting 1-9 tw barrel on a BAT action and chambering in a 20 PPC. I am thinking of shooting in a local egg shoot (Hickory Egg Shoot) and some groundhogs/ coyotes. The egg shoot has a target at 500 yards. So I need a very accurate bullet. I am talking match accuracy. My question is: does anyone have experience with the Black Hole Bullets 20 cal 55g Diamond Tipped BT bullet at ranges up to 500 yards. I hear the Berger 55g BT 20cal shoots good, has anyone compared the two? I know I would be better off using one of my 6BR / Dashers, but I have done that and got the T-shirt, I'm just having fun now with something new. Thanks for your replys, Samuel Hall

Daniel Brothers from South Carolina has tested the 55 Berger and the 55 Blackhole bullets at 600 yards and said they group the same, inside a cigarette pack.If memory serves his rifle had an 8 twist,I think an 8.5 would be enough?Good luck Sam,the 20's are a lot of fun.

17VLD...Matt.... I couldn't have said those words any better.... you are my new best friend..LOL.

I do shoot them both... and I also give the edge to the blackholes... they just seem to hit were your expecting them to hit when you pull the trigger.

They would be my competition bullet of choice... try them both and see what I mean.

Thats some good information as far as accuracy. My other question is how they perform on game? I had heard from multiple souces the Berger 55g BT will not open up at longer ranges. I will be shooting ground hogs and coyotes up to 500 yards. Anyone got any experiece with these two bullets (20cal. Berger 55g BT, and Black Hole 20 cal. 55g BT, Diamond Tipped) on game up to 500 yards? Velocity out of the 22PC should be at least up to and maybe surpass the 20 Tac and 204 Ruger, and slightly below a 20BR.

Up to 500 yards the bergers will open up fine.

I can't speak on the Blackholes.

Very long range the bergers will pencil through game.

last year I rolled one down the hill DRT with the 55 berger at 631 yds... it must have opened up just fine. I shot one this year at 650 yds with the blackhole...BUT... I didn't allow for wind, and hit it in the back leg... so that probably doesn't really count. I killed several out to 400 yds with the berger that wished that the bullet hadn't opened up on them.. but they did. You won't have a problem with the bullets doing their part past 500 yds... it will be all on your shoulders to preform.

I plan on using the blackholes all the time from now on for game killing. They will not let you down... but it could be the other way around...LOL.

Just build it and do it...you will see.

To me.... there are two Ultimate Calibers....

20-250AI with 55gr bullets....... and......
22-243AI with 75-90 gr bullets....

They both have the best BC and Wind Drifts out there.

Daniel Brothers, thank you for your informative reply! I am just curious if you were speaking of ground hogs or coyotes in your reply? Samuel Hall

I've only shot coyotes with it... but would love to shoot ground hogs this year if I can ever find anyone with a helping hand to those targets.

I shot 50 couple ground hogs last year with the 55 grain Berger and a 20x47 Lapua. I found close shots 30-70 yards I could not find any visible trace of bullet entrance or exit. Impacts were dramatic, many close impacts launched the hogs from their perch. 200-300-400 yards had devastating exits wounds. It's a fantastic bullet. I have not shot the black hole bullets but have heard good things. The Bergers will hold under an inch at 300 for me. Ran that bullet on paper one time last year at 600 yards to check my drop chart and I t shot three shots in 2.5 inches with half inch of vertical.

Very good info guys! Thanks! One other bullet I should have mentioned is Don Unmussig's bullets out of VA. He makes a 57gVLD 20 cal. Anyone have experience with this bullet accuracy at long range? Samuel Hall

Aaron, let me know how those work out for you! I did not know he Mr UnMussig had up to a 62g, that is very interesting! What twist barrel did he recommend for those? S.H.

I remember stories about two old friends that shot the Unmussig bullets in the Wyoming mountains at rock chucks.I believe that back in the day before Todd K reminded us all about 20's they were having good luck on the chucks with Don's 52 grain 20.They used 20 BR's.

He said they need an 8T to stabilize. They are much longer than the 55gr Bergers. I'd have to measure them again but if I remember correctly they are close to 1.1"

Hi new to the thread. Would the 55gr. Black hole ball be good on deer and wild hog? I have a Savage 110 in 22/250 with 1/14 twist and currently use 55gr. Rem Core-lokts with great success and put five rnds in a 1" circle at 100yds. Looking to keep accuracy and provide a little more damage. Any suggestions for me? Thanks to all in advance.

Stan.... I'm talking about 20 caliber bullets...not 22 caliber.... and.... I have no idea what a 22 caliber 55 gr bullet would do to a deer or hog... it would probably work if shot in the head.

You'll probably notice a slight decrease in velocity and accuracy. Ever so slight.
