Any one help with powder selection and starting loads for 20 BR with 1x8 twist. Haven't had much luck finding much. Thanks Scott

Scott I run vv2700 in my 1 in9 with 50 grn bergs.
I can get almost 3500 fps with this powder. Book sead it should do 3560 out of a 12 twist.
Watch for presher and start low aa book showes 29.9 start load for a 50 grn.
I am enterested in how your project gos. Good luck and keep us posted.
Kevin

I am shooting 55 grain bergers through my 1:9 twist. I am having good luck with varget and am dumping 29.3 grs for 3530 fps. I may step it up cause there are not pressure signs yet. Start lower and keep us posted.

I am shooting the 55 Bergers in 1:9 Twist Krieger with 32.0 gr Varget and getting 3725 fps and .25 moa accuracy! This load is like a laser beam on prarie dogs out to 700 yds!
I'm shooting it in a Bat action with Federal F205m primers and all is well, but if you tried this load with the federal primers in a stock Remington or Savage Action, You'll get firing pin cratering problems before reaching 32 gr. In that case I would recommend a tougher skinned primer such as Rem 7 1/2's.

Incidentally, I sure would like to buy some Berger 20 cal, 55gr bullets if anybody can spare some!

Thanks for the info. I gave up looking for 55gr Bergers. I found on article from Saubier about Don U. bullets. Ordered 500 57gr's from Don. I have his number if your interested in trying some. They are some long sleek bullets. Scott

Dogbuster,
You powder selection is the opposite of what I would have expected!
I say this because all the powder burn rate charts I have show IMR 4007SSC to be slower than Vit N-140!
I would have thought you would use the slower powder with the heavier bullet!

I am planning to try the 4007 in the 20BR with 55-57gr bullets! Have You already tried that?

Can't help with the 57's mine is only a 9 twist and I don't think it will stabilize the 57 I have some just haven't tried them yet.
But I am shooting the 55 Bergers and Blackhole at 3650 fps with RL 15 and the 45gr Blackhole over 4000.
Also shooting the 55's at 3800 fps in the 20-250

57gr Unmussing, 55gr Blackhole, 45gr Blackhole

Finally figured out the load. Varget 31.5gr -Winchester small rifle primer - Don U 57gr bullet jumped 55 thousandths. 100 yard three shot 0.121 inch group. A little bit of tweaking and I should be able to improve. Thanks for everyones input. Scott
