So i have a couple of .204s really enjoy the caliber, however the 20 practical / tactical has always interested me for the brass availability. i didnt have the reamer or new dies but What i did have was a spare .204 set of Hornady dies and couple .204 reamers to choose from all the tools and the will to tinker. I started looking at the dimensional differences between the two .223 and .204, everything looked like it would work regarding a shortened .204 sizing die on a .223 case. not sure it was necessary but i made a headspace gauge that matched the 223-shoulder datum except with a 30Degree shoulder, ran my 204 reamer in short to my new gauge and checked it with the sized down brass. All good. shot it out the back door a few times to test and fireform. all looks good. now to load up some for load development. i know there is a 20 practical and 20 tactical but this doesnt match either of them. its a easy enough route if a guy already has the parts.
FYI this reamer is tight neck requiring neck turning BUT saami spec .204 reamer will leave about .002 clearance from sized down brass. Thought this was interesting enough to share. il update as i do load development
