20-222

Has anybody ever played with one of these, thinking about rebarreling my CZ 527 222, what's your opinion, thanks

I just had a .20 cal Hart barrel delivered today that I was originally going to have chambered into a 20-221 but I'm seriously reconsidering that and I'm now leaning hard toward doing a 20-222. My donor gun is a Rem 700 .223 action and with the 20-222 I don't think I'll need to change any of the magazine parts/pieces.

20-222 is a great round, tho the long neck of the 222 is not really needed to stay out of the donut with 20 cal bullets since the bearing surfaces are short.

Im sure youve probably heard this before, but I think a 20 Practical or 20 Tactical is a wiser choice since they both use 223 brass and are easily formed and ready to shoot with one pass in the FL sizer die. Tons of affordable top quality 223 brass out there.

Love my 20-222! Those guys over on saubier were great help for me. I'm shooting 35gr Bergers @ 3750....... Basically identical to a 22/250 ballistically out to almost 300 yds unless it's a bit windy Easy one pass with a bushing die and shoot. What's not to love bout that? You may want to check on neck diameter on your reamer......mines a .232 neck and Win or Rem brass is no turn but some lots of Lapua needs a slight clean up. Feeds like butter out of my 700

As I mentioned above, I've been a little on the fence between doing a 20-221 or 20-222. I went with a Hart 1-11tw so I could reliably shoot the 40's and if I do decide to shoot a few coyotes with this particular gun having a little extra case capacity, over the 20-221, certainly won't hurt. Also, since I'm using a Rem 700 223 as my donor action there will be no need to change any of the bottom metal and it should feed like butter. Everything is getting shipped off to Kevin Weaver Tuesday.

From the sounds of things the 35gr Bergers do a number on coyotes so that'll likely be my coyote bullet and I'll use the 32's for everything smaller. I shoot the 32 Vmax in my 204 Ruger and those things definitely provide fantastic splat factor on the small critters that scurry around on the ground, not sure if I'd want to use them on coyotes though.

I had a heap off once fired .222 brass so I went with the 20/222 few mates over here in Australia have them same as above one pass threw bushing die and shoot I’m using 32grain zmax v133 with great success best so far 235yard head shot rabbit
I love the little 20/222

Yeah, I've been loving mine. Pac Nor 11 twist barrel, #6 sporter contour. Remage nut system. Made this one as a fairly heavy single shot, now I'd almost like to get another lighter barrel for a more "walk around rifle". I've still got a few nice sporter stocks from my old 222.

I love the power level, and low recoil of this cartridge, and my only problem is it shoots so consistently good that I've been lazy about trying more combinations. jd

my 20-222.....luv it !. original chamber was a 20BR

so this is a 9 twist tube..Pac Nor full cylinder 3 groove

just right at 26" after rechamber..Savage Target action..PST 6-24 glass

40 V max main diet...H322 powder...Lapua brass...p/dogs hate it !

Mark, - I spoke with Todd Kindler (one of the "pioneers" of 20 caliber cartridges) last week as I'm doing a 20 VarTarg -Turbo (.222 necked to 20 cal. with a 30 degree shoulder & I believe a little of the body taper removed). Todd stated that the 20 VarTarg-Turbo had "the greatest accuracy potential of all the 20's being shot". (Todd's words - not mine). - Originally I was going to go with the straight VarTarg but I've changed my mind to go with the 222 variant (The Turbo). - I'm new to the 20 caliber "world" but have heard so much positive information that I couldn't resist any longer. - I'm sure even a regular 222 necked straight down to 20 cal. would be a great cartridge.

Regards, - Ron -

I believe a little more case prep for the 20VTT. If I remember correctly, Todd shortens the 222 case by approx .100" for the 20VTT.

I like your donor action choice..Use the 222 or the 223 necked down to a 20 cal..I have a Tac 20 w 1-11 twist Pac-nor Barrel...I use the sierra 39 gr bullet...I'd love to do a sporter in that CZ as well...Should make an Outstanding little walkaround varminter..Mike in Ct...PS: pm me if you need a few ideas..I did a project 25/223 on youth CZ sporter..I can help you avoid a few problems..
