The Coyote contests start in November and go through February around here (my county), minimum of two per month, sometimes more. I think there was even one in March last year.
I'm an avid coyote hunter, but want nothing to do with contest hunting. IMO, contests create a lot of educated coyotes and bring out a lot of questionable ethics. I'll leave it at that. I do try to follow the contests just so I can plan my hunts and tactics around them accordingly. For reference it's not uncommon for two coyotes to take home the prize money with a field of up to 80 teams in January or February.
I take my coyotes any way I can get them, in my lap or 1000 yards (someday), just as long as they hit the dirt. I pack around a tripod to get over brush & steady enough for long shots, and shoot heavy-for-caliber-match bullets to buck the wind. You do know that if you spend a month hunting in most parts of Wyoming, you'll likely get 20+ days of 20+ mph wind, right
?Have you considered hunting over bait (bait-sicles) to increase long range shot opportunities?
