2 or 3oz trigger for savage single shot action

The ONLY one that I was aware of was Sharp Shooters Supply and I believe they insisted in putting it in your rifle. I have 3 Savages with that trigger and they are amazing !! The only problem ...... they no longer make that trigger .

I've gone down this exact road....tried a Rifle Basix Sav 2, never got anywhere near the advertised 4 oz pull weight - it would constantly slam fire in that range and as far as I'm concerned based on my personal experience (and on what I paid master gunsmiths to try to make it work, which was more than the trigger cost), the Rife Basix Sav 2 I bought was an unsafe piece of garbage. Had to stay well over a pound to stop the slam fires and even then I didn't trust it at all, so then I tried a Jard, which could be set to around 10 ounces and at that pull weight worked well. Your best bet might be to just stay with the stock trigger, save your money, and then move into a new (non Savage) build where you can safely get into extremely low pull weight triggers.

smoke-um, I assume You are talking Bench Rest shooting?? I have tried all Savage triggers. My favorite is the Rifle Basics Savage II. It breaks reliably at 4 ounces. It is shimmed and took hours upon hours of trial and error work to get it that way. But, I have another one that I cannot get to that level, and I don’t know why. It’s in a box, on the shelf.

If You have, or can get a Savage red blade, You can get it to about 6 ounces. Pin the blade back, or remove it. That blade makes Me nuts at the bench:(

In the meantime, practice practice practice dry firing. Break that shot without disturbing the rifle.

Best of luck to You, and let us know how it goes.

I would personally be extremely cautious using a trigger without the safety blade in place. It's the only thing between you and an accidental discharge! A buddy has one set at 6oz and 50% of the time it holds and the other times the blade saves him from troubles! Just my .02

Understand Your concern, but these rifles should only be used in a “COLD RANGE” situation. This means no rifles present with bolts installed, UNTIL they are on the bench, pointed at the berm, and the command “install bolts” is given. Sometimes these Bench Rest rifles do discharge when the bolt is closed, often causing the shooter to be Disqualified. Thus, another reason for extreme safety measures.

Of course, be safe in all aspects of firearms handeling.

Its real hard to give advice like this on a forum. Have you been to a public range?

You are correct, and I humbly yield to those with much greater experience than I to correctly explain extremely light triggers.

Yes, I shot on a public range this weekend, where chamber flags and bolts removed was observed. I also shot an IBS match at the same range.

Just trying to help a Savage buddy out on Accurate Shooter, who wants to shoot Bench Rest. There aren’t that many of us out here.

I have my Savage red blade triggers set to 12 ounces. My Rifle
Basics 2 I had down to 5 ounces but would trip by slamming the
bolt closed. At 8 ounces all is fine. I'm used to a heavy trigger,
The guns are also 17 lbs and more so, a heavier trigger does not
disturb things as much.

I have been learning from the wisdom of Fuj for many years now, and I appreciate all of it. Jard tried to solve the Savage bench rest trigger problem, but that has not worked out yet either. But the Jard is suitable for non competition applications. It is the most expensive Savage trigger.

I have 2 Savages that I use for BR matches. One has a Sharp Shooters trigger set at just under 3 oz., it has no safety and is strictly a bench rest gun. The other is a target action with red blade and is set at 7 oz. and it functions safely, but I cannot go any lower or it will slam fire or just trip, so I just learned to live with it.
I don't know of any gunsmiths willing to take on the Savage trigger and I strongly suggest you stay away from the home remedies.
