1st class mail

I usually package and weight my parcels, then check the cost of the different services and ship what it the most economical for the service desired. I too have had one of two problems with all the services over the span of my adult life, but agree with the poster who said, "I think they all do a really good job" or something to that effect.

I use FedEx, UPS, USPS and occasionally others and I too think they do a great job overall.

I recently purchased a used RCBS Case Prep station. When I got it, I took it out of the box, looked at it and put it back in the box. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I got a coupon for a mail order house and with it was able to purchase the Lyman Case Prep set up, brand new in the box with a new warranty for $5.00 more than I paid for the used one.

I put it up for sale on this site and it sold in less than an hour. Shipped it out the next day in a Prepaid Medium USPS Box at $13.60 which was much less than shipping the 8 pounds to Washington by any other carrier.

Package arrived much faster than I expected, but the buyer was disappointed because the three screws that held the motor were laying in the bottom of the box, apparently stripped out and the motor was flopping around in the sealed case. There was no damage to the box. The only thing I can think of was that it was dropped from a high position onto the top and the accelerated weight of the motor sheared off the three screws.

In any case, I refunded the buyers payment and asked for some photos which he sent right away. I placed a claim on line, including showing the undamaged box and my guestimate of what happened.

The Post Office did not call to discuss or ask the buyer, who still have the unit, to provide and more documentation or viewing of the product and in less than a week, a check showed up in my mailbox for the full insured amount.

This was the first claim I have ever made with the Post Office and I was impressed.

I had to send personal documents to my offspring. One in CO, one in OK. From PA. Sent them both USPS Priority, in the folder thing they have at the PO. Sent them 4 days apart.

BOTH were lost. The one sent to CO was traced as leaving PA, then returning, then leaving, then nothing, then three weeks later, AFTER i filled out the online lost mail thing that is supposed to flag it and return it to me whenever it next scans, it was delivered the day he left CO for 4 months.

The one to OK was marked undeliverable, for no good reason as the address was proper, and it sat in the PO, where my daughter finally located it after three weeks.

I could have driven it there faster. They suck.

Have EVERYTHING with the exception of any Haz Mat materials flown in over Canada or floated in by barge through the inside passage.

Quite your whining....pussies!

I find it all too convenient that anytime I've mailed something of value, it was "lost" by USPS. Gift checks, final car payments, etc. all vanished into the abyss. You can imagine how stressful it is for a several thousand dollar bank cheque (not a cashier's check) to not make it to the financial institution holding your loan and then being told by USPS that the insurance and tracking you bought doesn't cover it cause it didn't qualify as "lost" yet. Getting the bank to reverse and recut a new bank cheque was a huge ordeal. No one needs that stress and upset in their life. I figure USPS has stolen more than a life-time's worth of mail fees in the couple of gifts that never made it combined with the above incident so I make a point of not using USPS and I encourage everyone I come across to do the same. If a company I'm ordering from only ships via USPS, I go else where to purchase and I tell the business why.

Yeah like UPS is better. A friend builds actions, and a few rifles a year. He now sends the bolt separately on rifles. Some years ago, a shooter in SLC ordered a rifle. My friend sends the rifle via UPS, and the bolt via USPS. Rifle never arrives. UPS jerks him around six months, then pays. About a year later, he gets a phone call from the next town West, wanting to buy a bolt. Friend asks for the serial number, since he offers several sizes. Guy gives him the SN, name, and address. Friend calls the FBI. They go to arrest the guy, and during the conversation, ask the guy where he bought it. "My neighbor up the street..." They go to get him, and his wife tells the fed he's at work. Guess where?

USPS? The PO is trying to break the Unions. Ours has ads on the door looking for part time help, $13 an hour, up to 24 hrs a week, and zero benefits. Welcome to socialism...
I worked for the PO for several years long haul mail run.
