For a shooter, the barrel condition is most important.
In the 70s, new GI barrels for 1903s could be had for $25. They came short chambered.
My new barrel was head spaced & installed for $5 on my surplus 1903.
Before 1968, just walk into the bargain basement, look thru the rack, pick one out.
One problem, at the time was, people switching bolts to get a snug fit, tight head clearance, on a dummy round.
Great rifle then, for shooting cast bullets.
