184 vs 180 Bergers.

Since the 184’s have been out for a season, I am curious who has made the switch and now it has turned out. I have talked with one shooter with noticed the 184’s did not shoot good with tail or head wind. I have shot a few hundred with my 7 saum. It’s a hunting rifle and manages to get a couple 3” 3 shot groups at 1k Deepcreek.

In my first 7mm Sherman Short Mag I shot the 184 Bergers. They are good bullets. However, as far as my rifle was concerned, accuracy was nothing to set the world on fire. After I burned out the barrel, I got another and started back with the 180 Hybrids.. So far, in my humble opinion, the 180 Hybrids are doing just as I expected them to, after quite a few 7mm chamberings! I will not be going back to the 184s anytime soon.. But hey, we all have our opinions, the above is mine..

Some people are having good success with the 184. I tried some in my current barrel and couldn’t get them to shoot as well as the 180’s.

I got them to shoot with same charge but a .035 jump.

I just tested them both with 6.5 Stabal in a 7-08 IMP with the same charge and jump the 180s run 20-30 fps faster than the 184s and are both in a node not just testing a speed difference. I've not been able to tune one to better accuracy than the other yet but haven't put the same effort into the 180 yet. With minimal effort the 180s are as good or possibly better than the 184s in my gun.

I don't have experience with the 180 hybrids but shot the 180VLDs exclusively in my last 280AI barrel - provided they were jammed about 10thou or jumped 40thou, they shot very well at 2800fps. In my current 280AI barrel I have run the 184s only, also at 2800fps and with a jump of somewhere between 30 and 40 thou and I'm very happy with them, my scores are higher with this bullet compared to the VLDs.
