17HMR Scope Recommendations For Primarily Range Shooting Out To 300 Yards

Looking for a bit more " current " recommendations for a scope upgrade for my 93R17 17HMR. Budget is $300 or less. About 95% range shooting. My current top mag is 7X and sometimes I feel somewhat under scoped ( particularly sighting a 2" gong at 200 yards! ). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I use and recommend a march 3 - 24. We use our 17HMR for plinking and for hunting and it works really great at the low mag for taking out pests. However if you want something a bit more for target and better mag then a March 4 - 40 or so would work. But we run ours with a 3 - 24 and love it.

Doc, thanks for the suggestion. Do appreciate it, however, I don`t think any of those March scopes will fit within my 300 dollar budget! I`m sure they`re great but that`s a good bit more than I care to spend for informal recreational target shooting with a rimfire.

I have several Athlon Talos 6x24 scopes on varmint rifles that work well in terms of seeing a 1" dot at 100 yds, and not bad at 200 yds. These work well at pdogs/sage rats out to 400. I have a Athlon 6x18 on my 93R but I don't shoot it out past 125 yds in the fields. No issues with any of my Athlon's.

I’ve got a Leupold fixed 12X AO on my 17 hmr. Should be able to find one almost in that range

Vortex Crossfire II, 6-18X44 MOA.

Not a expensive scope I have 2 of them on both of my Savage's 93R17. Works just fine for 300 yds.

I will net you know right now you won't make it past 350 yds. I have tried and the bullet just poops out past 350.

I could not hit a 24x24 steel plate past 350.

Have fun trying. I love both my 93R17's.

Oh, forgot to mention, you WILL need a 1 piece rail to mount just about any of the new scopes.

EGW makes some good ones.

If you 93R17 is the first or second year production the mounting holes on the first models are different than the latest production.

I always had fantastic luck with the lowly Weaver V-16 scopes. I have one on my Ruger .17HMR and it's all I need.

Take a look at Arken's LH-4, 6x24 30mm tube, and there on sale now for 259.99.

May want to consider a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16X42mm. Made in the Philippines. Very nice scope for the money. Midway has sold thousands of these scopes. When available, they have sold them for $199 shipped.

PS: Also a Vortex Crossfire II 6-24X50mm meets your criteria. Made in China, 30mm tube. With Midway's 15% off promotion, cost is $255 shipped.

I use a 12x Leupold with a fine reticle and dot. It works very good for target definition and gophers. I site in at 100 yards using a very small aiming point with my point of impact higher. I shoot towards gophers pretty far out there and occasionally get lucky. A quality scope that tracks well should work, the 17HMR is not a heavy recoil rifle. A 10X or 12X with a suitable reticle, look on the various computer sites. I've had very good results buying quality used scopes on this site.
