17fb with 30 kindler golds results

For the life of me I cant remember who on here said the 17fb and 30gr/8208 combo was made for each other, but they couldnt of been more right! 18.8gr put me at 3690fps and in the .2's. I had to try this in the desert. Went out for a few and lasered a big jack rabbit at 588 yds and went for it. It just locked up solid, dead on its feet! Im sold, cant wait to call some dogs!

You'll prolly like them 30Golds on coyotes. I run them just under 4100 from my Gre'Tan built.17Predator. Supremely accurate and they do a #on coyotes.
Here's a good weekend in OK, couple years back. Most whacked with a little 30Gold (the messy ones were pard's .243 LOL)

And very fur friendly on the couple cats we called!

Have fun!!!

Thats a beautiful cat! Nice shootin! Reamer was a saami spec, cut by mcgowen. I can just touch the lands at an coal of 1.891. However, they shot the best at 1.845

I should add that this combo had quite a wide node. Accuracy at 200 yards from 17.8-19gr was all acceptable, 19gr was just startin to flatten primer, so I settled at 18.8

Thanks for that......

I just had one built with a zero free bore.....so I`ll give this combo a workout and see how it goes...

Thanks for the heads up.

Phil.

I shoulda spec'd the reamer out but got lazy lol. Shoots awesome tho, and with the lapua brass loaded neck at .203 its still pretty tight. Also noticed with lapua brass is the capacity is slightly less than rp

Was it difficult to form .17 Fireball brass from .221 Fireball brass????

I had considered doing this, but as of now I have the Rem. stuff...

Phil.

I didnt have any issues. The FF loads were great for hunting too. I know bobcat ( other thread) had some problems but got it ironed out by neck turning. Its waaaaay stronger brass. Makes it tough to realize your in a high pressure danger without a chrono. I pushed 20gr vmaxes to 4350fps out of a 20" with tight pockets still and easy bolt lift!

Nothing more than imperial wax, a cutoff 204 ruger fl die, and a 17fb fl die! A 20vt would prob work fine too, but I basically live in a machine shop so I cut one off and radiused the front

I`ll have to get a FL die, my bushing dies will leave a radius on the brass........

I might have to cut a .204 die as well, those vartarg dies are rarer than hens teeth.....

Phil.

The 204r will squeeze the body down a few thou, but once their fired they look great. I have a feeling they'll last forever though, my initial test pieces have 5 firings with no annealing and primers are tight as new.

Those are DARNED good bullets! WD

Used those Golds a lot over the years and may go back to them soon. was netting 3300ish out of them with IMR 4198 out of this XP-100 17 FB, and now 3400 with the 25 V-Max. Shot this guy (on the 2nd shot) at 350 last year on a super-cold day. It was hell to skin too after dark from a fencepost with below zero conditions--
