Thanks for the relies. I don’t think I can get a 40” blank. CatmanAnything in the 24-26" range should work, I would opt for the longer option just in case you decide to set it back and rechambered it to something else later on.
Catman ,if you haven’t bought your barrel yet check out Saubiers classifieds,DTucker has a Shilen 9 twist and he is down to 300.It is chambered for 17 Remington and a coned bolt 700 fired once to test.
At that price you can still afford to have it fit to your action,it’s 27 long so room for whatever length you choose.Good luck.BTW my 17Mach1V rifle is a Shilen that is 27” and it shoots great. No dog in this hunt, just thought it is a good deal.
Matt
Planning on coyotes,Fox,crows, coons. CatmanCatman, What are you planning to shoot with it? Paper and rodents are one thing, but if you are hunting fur I would say 20-22. I'm getting 3900+ out of a 22" 10 twist shooting 25gr Bergers and it's hell on coyotes. I can't see needing more for the distances I shoot. (under 300 most of the time)
