17 Remington Fireball

I am putting together a 17 Fireball on a Contender 23 in barrel. My question is what would you recommend for power of scope for this project? It will be for vermon and such and not target shooter. I am thinking about a 16 or 18 power for use on the ground hogs and coyotes, and anything else that should pop up.
Thanks for any advice.

Have you ever used a 16 or 18 power scope and tried to get on a coyote or ground hog, when they are moving and close ? My opinion wrong power to do so with. Standing and with plenty of time to zero in on them, fine, but not any fast and steady viewing.
Look for a decent variable, around 3 to 9 or 3-16, I believe it would serve you much better.

I have a 6-18 Leupold VX2 on mine. It works well. But a 4-12 or 4-14 would be fine too.

I have had a fair amount of success with a Burris Timberline 4-14 on an Anschutz 17HMR bolt action handgun.
Also have the same on an Annie .22 Exemplar. Unfortunately they aren't made anymore but occasionally one will pop up on ebay. As others have posted, would stick with something that maxes out at 12 or 14 power. Good luck with the Fireball. I've been shooting them for quite a while. Many groundhogs, crows and other vermin have made their acquaintance.

Yesterday evening at 141 yards.

I'd look at Leupold VX - 3HD 4.5-14x40. Comes in 1" tube and a 30mm, couple choices of reticles.

I have a couple .17AH, they both wear 4-16 Weavers. That power range has worked very well. And 20" is plenty long enough for that cartridge and makes a very handy little T/C
