17 Mach 2 build help

Just for fun go to RFC and look back at posts since the beginning about 10/22 .17MKII conversions. Also make sure you ALWAYS wear safety glasses and hearing protection , ALWAYS with your HM2 semi auto.

Ever shoot one? Depending on how it's set up, you may need a face shield. Left hand shooters need not apply.

Mine is a 917 Marlin, and I don't care to blow up my 10/22. I know some guys have no issues, but I also know of those with out of battery blow ups that had less than a clip through after cleaning.

Thats some funny stuff their ;D

A parts swap with no tweaks is a disaster in the making. Mine works but with 9 modifications. Some of the mods required machining and uncommon tooling.

One thing I thought was weird, was how tight the Volquartsen barrel fit into the receiver; I'm not sure I could remove it, now.

FB, if you need to remove it heat the receiver with a hairdryer. The Expansion Coefficient of steel is 6.5 PPM and aluminum is 13 PPM. The receiver will expand twice as much as the barrel and the barrel will come out. Use for installation also. ;)

There are alot of photos of blow up "keyboards/semi auto rifles" on the RFC forums! ???

I had the volquartzen conversion and it was amazingly accurate, almost to the point of being a little boring. I also had am out of battery discharge that peppered me with bits of the magazine. Very unpleasant. It had less than 50 rounds down the tube. After that I checked every round before squeezing trigger. Caught a few fail to close. After 200 roinds or so the problem went away. The only other problem I had was rounds jamming in the factory rotary magazine every other 10 shot string sometimes more than once per string. Tried several different 10 round mags, disassembling, cleaning, and coating the inside with several different dry lubricants with only short term success. Never got around to trying the aluminum volquartzen 25 rounders before I had a house fire. My bet is that would have cured the problem since the aluminum would be much less susceptible to repeated galling and fraying like condition I observed inside the plastic 10 rounders. I just got use to having to smooth out the inside with 600 grit paper and lubing them every 150 rounds or so. eventually I learned to take 5 or 6 mags with me to shoot sage rats so I could set the malfunctioning clip aside for a clean, fresh one. Wish I still had the gun as it was a pleasure to shoot, idiocincrises and all. Best luck and happy shooting.
