17 hornet brass

Might check a current thread over on Saubier. There is some great discussion on history of brass quality with the 17 hornet. Very informative. Only bringing it to attention in case a prospective knowledgeable 17 hornet buyer questions you about origin.

I thank you my friend, I will try to call them in the morning. Look like a very nice store, I wish we had something like it here.
Thanks again, George
We had another here I liked even better. But they closed. Owner got cancer and needs time for treatment. Trailhead has been getting a few things in stock. I scored some 22 cal 40gr bergers last week. They also had a bunch of Hornady stuff and a bunch of 20 cal Bergers

I got hold of Trailhead this AM. They only had 1 box of fifty, but the orders in. Hopefully it will be here in time to load before we leave for Montana, only 2 weeks away.
The man I spoke to seemed very nice, I'm sure we will do more business.
Thank you again, George

Probly talked to Mark.. Good guy. If ya get in a pinch I have a new bag here i can spare.

If you take the time to weigh 17 hornady brass you can save some headaches when you load it, the older brass from the early days weighs 53.3 to 53.9. Newer factory brass is 54.3 gr. Current production factory ammo fired brass is very heavy from 59.4 to 62 plus grains. Lighter brass has more case capacity than the newer loaded factory ammunition cases. Something to be aware of if you are loading Lil gun powder and shooting in warmer weather

I think I'm in good shape, but thanks for the offer. I believe I talked with Sam, he said it would go in the mail Saturday, so I should get it in time to get it loaded. I see snow off and on all this week were we are headed, but, the good news is the grass isn't growing so those little buggers won't have places to hide.
Thanks, again George

I should copy and paste this in my loading manual. Very good information.
Thank you, George

Having two CZ 527 17 Hornets I have a lot of brass from early to current and from many different Lot #'s and some Federal American Eagle stamped 17 Hornet brass as well. I haven't weighed any that was nearly that heavy, maybe your weights are with primer. All mine have been weighed either as new unprimed or fired then deprimed and they fell into the 49.7gr - 54gr weight range. I've measured case capacity in all of the different case weights and they usually hold 14.2gr - 14.7gr H2O The neck thickness has a fairly large variance from Lot# to Lot# on 17 Hornet brass ranging from 9 - 12 thou though.

I purchased the brass on Saturday, it was here at 12:30 today (Tues). I've got it sized and primed, ready for powder and bullets. I also weighed all 50, the weight difference was 51.3 to 51.8 gr. The majority were 51.4 and 51.5, I didn't do mean, S.D. etc. Oh boy fifty more rounds, that means one or two more critters, maybe.
