I have a Cooper Jackson in 17 Ackley Hornet. I have only shot PDs with it but plan to shoot Foxes and coyotes soon.

Unless your fine shooting shooting and gun collection gives me an inferiority complex.
Once it gets in teens around here or a deep snow coyotes really move.

I had a few coyotes run off when hit solid with the 17 AH at distances of less than 50 yards, 20g Berger MEF, MV of 3550. I upgraded to the 17 Mach IV with 25g Bergers, problem solved.

Anything's possible, so far all groundhogs about 40+ this summer and 6 to 7 coyotes , 2 beaver several crows , coons have all dropped in their tracks, furthest shot to date about 212 yards. A poke in my area. I believe the 17 Hornady hornet can deliver out to 300 yards according to ballistic numbers. speaking, shot placement always rules no matter what caliber. This winter the verdict will be out as far as coyotes go.

Most places do allow for nuisance permits I thought otherwise they had be trapped to many different laws I guess

Powders are different now than when I was shooting my 17 Ackley Hornet. 25g Berger would have been a different animal on coyotes perhaps CFE Black, N120 would have made a difference. 25g Hornady Hp would probably fixed my issues, but I had PTSD from hitting those coyotes solid and watching them run off without ever missing a stride.

Coyotes can take a lot of killing, and the ones I hit, were hit solid in the lungs at distances less than 50 yards, they ran like a scaled cat. I found one about 120 yards away because we were hunting on the edge of a flood plain, the others, never found. My load was a 20g Berger MEF at 3550 MV.

I went back to the 22 K Hornet with 40g Speer spt, problems were solved with a high velocity bullet that would penetrate better.

The 17 Mach IV with the 25g Berger Match is a stone cold killing machine.

Oh I'll gladly agree I'm not in your legendary status of marksmanship. Your the guy that has middle of the road factory guns and with factory ammo no less they shoot as good as any custom. Hell, I don't know anyone that can hold a candle to you. Wait, I know, it's all that Swat training you have but you don't ever want to tell anyone what city or dept. it was with, right....
