17 Fireball

I am going to self promote my 20 Vartarg brass here as well. I have plenty available and am able to do more if you need. Brass is formed from same year NEW Lake City Nato brass. Inside flash holes deburred. Formed and necks turned to .0125 on an Autodod. Annealed on a regulated Giraud, trimmed, lightly chamfered and deburred to 1.394, washed and tumbled. Inspected many times along the way for consistency.

It would be perfect to be transformed into 17 fireball or 17 mach IV with a little work.

Here is an example of 1,000 that is going out to a fine gentleman on Tuesday. This makes around 5,200 plus that he has gotten from me so is must not be too bad.:)
(some of his friends have purchased from me also)

Just another option.
Contact me if any interest, or would like to discuss possibilities.
Thanks

Check out some of my other posts on the vartarg for reference
232 i don't think the .125 neck thickness will work for him a 17FB saami reamer has a .206 chamber neck i believe.
Here's the neck part of a 17FB saami print

IDK, may have made a mistake getting into the 17FB..??
I absolutely love my 17 Mach1v's and will always have a couple in my stable. It is a wonderful cartridge for pds and ground squirrels. Actually anything built on the Fireball case is way more fun than should be legal.Dont get me started on the 20VT. Starline could do very well if the offered the 221. Mike a picture of that #1 would sure be nice ;) Don't second guess yourself, sounds like an awesome rifle and cartridge.

Sherm, most of my 17s are .197" but a few are .203" As I get older I am steering towards no neck turn even in my comp guns.

Get ahold of CZkid on here he makes VT out of LC brass he may make you some 17 fireball not alot to do but neck it down to 17 cal really.
If he doesn't want to do it p.m me we might be able to work something out.
No promises but

The plan was to start with the 17FB, then determine another 17 caliber.

Beautiful! I am a #1 fancier and typically like nice wood on them but you just changed my perspective on that. Who built your #1 Mike? Dibs if you ever sell ❤️

I'm glad I'm getting good responses & guidance on this subject. I'm fully capable of reloading, I just haven't turned necks or formed my own yet. I appreciate the friendly banter going on in regard to neck size. This will help me make up my mind in the direction I go.

Keep it coming guys!!!

Respects,
Mike

Who made your #1 stock ?
Looks great. How does it shoot?
Very nice job on the fit of the picatinny rail. Did you do the gunsmithing on that #1 ?

I was just curious i really don't like necks that are really thick on 17 stuff, .204 neck chambers are plenty in my opinion.
I load my stuff to .200

I just finished setting up my Savage .17 HMR, and my plan is (was?) to go into a 17 Fireball. Guess I will do some more reading.

I have found that making brass from 1x LC produces better results than using new purchased or 1x Remington brass. I'd hit up one of the folks on the forum selling same year head stamp formed brass if you don't want to form your own.

I shoot both a VT and a 17FB.

I turned all the necks (1000) each. Not all that hard if you are not looking for "perfection". I used a case mounted in a drill and used a Sinclair neck turning tool. It was all LC brass done up by a guy who made it into 20VT. I just necked it down. Then neck turned and off I went

Soon I'll be reloading for a custom Ruger No. 1 chambered in 17FB. My question is what brass are you guys using that is readily available? I'm looking to buy 1K pcs.

Respects,
Mike
It is no different than starting with any other New to You cartridge. Always some challenges a long the way but you'll enjoy the Fireball. I built my first 17FB in 2015, now I have 2 17's and 2 221's. Wouldn't part with any of them. 221FB brass seems a little easier to find new and used. I have hundreds of pieces of 221 necked down to 17, Prairie Dogs and paper don't seem to care which headstamp it is. I prefer the Nosler 20 gr Varmageddon in mine driven by IMR 8208 and just started playing with A2230 which shows promise. A BB sized bullet going 4K plus, what's not to love? :)
