17 fireball vs 17 Remington

I won a custom rifle and I’m considering these 2 cartridges. The rifle will be a dedicated nighttime coyote calling rifle…Shooting off a tripod with a maximum distance of 300 yards.

Which would you go with and why

Have you or can you get dies and brass for both? That might be your deciding factor. What action you building off of?
Not sure of the 17 Remington factory ammo availability.

I was looking at a 20” Bartlein 4groove barrel with a 700varmint contour on a Solus action

I wanted to build a 17fb off a r700 action but did not look promising as a repeater. Thought 17 Remington after that till i was looking for a barrel. So i built a 20 practical. If the person building the rifle can make a 17 fireball a repeater and feeds properly let me know cuz i want one. I did not put much effort into it when i was wanting one

If you want a repeater 17 Remington would be a better option unless you can find fireball metal.
What he said for your intended purpose, and it's a pretty standard case.
Be aware the 17 Rem is about as big of a case as you can go and still have things work well together
But I found it coppers quickly due to the speeds, might have to clean every 20-30 rnds.
For higher volume shooting and not having to clean as often, ...something smaller that drives a 25 grainer at about 3800 is better
I guess you could load down the 17 Rem too but I never tried that.
The 17 Rem has great trajectory to 300 yds also.

I own both 17MKIV which is the wildcat equivalent of the 17 FB and 17 REM. Both are great cartridges but the 17 Rem has noticeably more power. Neither are forgiving on coyotes. You need a good behind the shoulder shot off of hard bone.

That makes a lot of sense with the weird case on the fireball. I guess I will ask the gunsmith who’s building the rifle if he thinks that would be an issue. I’m getting a Solus action and a Bartlein barrel that he’ll reem to whatever cartridge I go with. I’ll ask about the feeding though

I personally don’t load yet, but I can have family load them up for me and learn. Then get my own setup
I hope your getting a 9 twist. If coyotes are what you wanna shoot mainly consider atleast a 25 or even better a 30 grain bullet which means a custom.
I would see if you can find some factory 17 Remington ammo to start and brass or start now finding dies, brass and bullets.

I love my 17-357 Max that will push a 25gr bullet as fast as a 17 Rem, but I don't consider it a coyote gun. I have seen a coyote run off like it was never hit, with a 4" splash wound on it shoulder. The bullet disintegrating on impact with no penetration.
Sorry, to your question, it would be the 17 Rem.
