17 Cal bullets list?

What are all the different 17 Cal bullets available?

You see a lot of different ones talked about, but I never see them in the shooters supply websites.

What are all the different options out there?

The primary ones I have used are Nosler, Hornady and Berger. There are other companies who do 17 Caliber, but most are pretty specialized. Most are going to be 20, 25 and 30 grainers with others at both ends and in between.

Since Remington discontinued offering their 25-grain bullets as components, I have used Hornady exclusively. I sort of miss the Remington bullets in a way. Not as accurate as the Hornady bullets, but they thought they were game bullets and penetrated muscle well.
I use the Hornady VMAX bullets in 20 and 25 grain as well as their 25-grain hollow point. Moving away from the 20-grains now and can't see much difference between the two 25-grain offering in accuracy , but the VMAX has a higher BC.

I believe his name is Montana Mize(?). The last time I chatted with him on the phone the number I have is 254-784-9533. His 30gr BTHP shoot very well. At that time he was considering taking on some 20 Caliber bullets to make too. I wish there were more chucks, crows, and coyotes to shoot them at around here. Amazing. WD

Now they're saying the Hornady 25 gr hp is being discontinued.

That was the easy to find factory bullet my rifle likes.

Argh, I just checked and found the same thing.. that has been my go to for coyotes since it is slightly tougher than the VMax.

There are still quite a few of the Hornady .17 cal 25gr HP bullets on the shelves at the places I've been to so if a person needed to stock up on these bullets it shouldn't be to difficult, but if these are one of your favs, you probably shouldn't wait to long to stock up on them because it sounds like once they're gone, that'll be it.

I've moved away from Hornady of late. Every time I find a bullet I like they discontinue it. I tried the 20 gr vmax and the nosler 20 gr tipped Varmaggedon in my fireball. Nosler shot much better than Hornady. The best 3 powders were h-322, rl-7, and A-2015 in my rifle.

that's probably the worst news shooting wise I've heard in a while. I prefer the Berger 25s for coyotes but the Hornady's were good as well. Anyone have a line on any remaining stock (other than Cabelas)?

I picked up 10 boxes of 100 of these 17 caliber 15.5 grain polymer tip lead free boat tail from Midway. It was one of those repackaged deals they wouldn't say manufacturer. They call them factory seconds but I've not found any defects. I think Hornady makes them for CCI rimfire ammo but not sure about that. The tip is kind of a chocolate brown almost maroon.

Possibly Hornady lead free, they make a 15.5 loaded .17HMR round.

I have used about every one made. I now buy 500 lots of 25 grainers from Midsouth for around $40 some, shipped. They shoot just as good as anything else I tried and better than most

That must have been some time in the past, I keep and eye their and just looked again and no lots of 25’s for that kind of money.

+1 .... have seen MSS offer 20 grain bulk HPs for $40-45 ish but not 25 grain.

If anyone wants to swap some 25 s for 20 s , let me know. I have plenty 20 s but not as many 25 s !!
