.17 BR? ? ?

Has anyone ou there necked the 6br down to .17? Is it possible? I am keen to give it a go, but need info!

Yes, there is a 17 BR, most are for heavy bullets 37 gr Vld. I have not done one myself, but I have a 20BR. You use a 22BR fl bushing die with a 22 cal bushing, then a 20 cal, then a 17 cal.

Thanks Mark. I am considering the .20br as well - what sort of velocities are you achieving? I would be using the rifle principally for varminting and want something pretty quick. It makes sense to go this way as I already have a 6BR. Any idea where I might find out more about the .17 conversion?

My 20BR is a 9 twist to shoot the 50gr bullets, It will shoot the 50;s at 3700 f/s and the 40 Vmax a 3900 f/s. If I was starting over I would use a 12 twist, and get more speed. The 40 Vmax shoots the best in my gun. Look for info on these sites.

Do a search for 17BR. I think the 6PPC case is the best size for the 17 & 20. The Br case is a little big for both. The PPC case will give you as much speed as the BR case.

be very careful when deciding to use the 37 VLD's they don't want to stabilize very well. You're better off shooting lighter bullets, at reasonable speeds.
FWIW the .17 Little nasty get the same velocity as a 17 PPC with less powder. I think the .20 PPC is about the most idea round there is.
