mybe my next prodjuct

Well Hornady just came out with their version of the 17 Hornet (25* shoulder) and then there's the 17 Fireball from Rem. either should be good for 250 or so.

Come on over saubier.com

What do you need help with? We can assist.

A 17AH is very different from the Hornady Hornet. You need N120, H4198, or other similar powders. A 25gr bullet will be good out to 400yds on groundhogs and such size animals. 200yd and in on Coyote size animals. This isn't a beginers round if this is your first wildcat. I would sugguest coming over to Saubier and looking around first. ADam

I have had a 17 AH barrel for my TC for several years. I can tell you when working up a load go 1/10 of a gr. at a time as that little round can go from safe to over load in a couple 1/10`s of a gr. My load of choice is the 19 gr. Calhoon bullet over 10.4 gr of H-4227. It`s very tough bullet and raeally hammers game. With the above I`m getting 3,600 fps. with a max. point blank range of abt. 285 yrds. Great little round.

What AB said. May want to consider a 1in9" twist for the 25 V-Max. AB and the boys at Saubier should be able to confirm. I prefer the 20 gr. V-Max to limit exiting the chuck in urban areas. As he said it isn't a beginner's wildcat but certainly not insurmountable. Knowledge of annealing will help reduce case loss.

I am wishing Calhoon still made these

I only use thee 20gr. bullets in my .17AH when i want to use the 25`s i step up to the .17-222.

Mr.Majestic,

You have to look at the .17-222 25gr. bullets at 4100+ with great accuracy,it will put a smile on your face and use Lapua brass too..........

PS......If 4100 isn`t enough for you you could always have Kevin Weaver whip up one of his .17 Bobcat`s with the 40* shoulder.....

Phil.

phil, I have a donor rifle, 700 chambered in .222, already and considered the .17/222 but lately have been leaning to the .20 Practical. I have the .17AH and the Fireball, several .223's and a AI, 2 .243 AI's a 14 and a 8 twist but no .20's. Thinking a 1in8" twist for the 55 gr. Berger. I love the .17's but the wind is real tough on them and I suck at reading it! ;D

Mr.Majestic

If the 55s are your intended fodder you should look at the 20br. 20dasher or the 20-250 to get the most from those bullets.

I know what you're saying phil however that would require a bolt and more justification! ;)
Here in South Central PA more is not always better especially when it encompasses noise! All my long range rigs are regulated to the farmlands at my cabin and a two hour drive away.
