Hey folks how well would a 308 155 Lapua Scenar work in a Palma 95 chambered barrel (26")?
I am currently using 175gr SMK's being pushed to 2740 fps.
Want to try the Lapuas because Im bored and experimenting is fun.
1:11.27 rock creek progressive twist rate barrel.

I just started shooting my 95 palma chambered barrel with 175smk. It shot very good out to 1000 yards. They were loaded with CFE .223. I have 155 Sierra 2256 palmas for it. I am sure they will shoot fine and would tend to think the Lapua's would also.

How is big is the bearing surface compared to 175smk?
I am already juggling case capacity pressure and seating it away from the lands for best accuracy for 175 smk.

Bearing surface of the 155 scenar L is about the same as the 175smk (recent lots)

Found one 155 scenar from a few years ago and it has less bearing surface than the 175smk, roughly 0.0020" less.

What is coal of 175 smk to touch land in your chamber?

They shoot wonderful in a 95 and 2011 Great Bullet cost to high now. 2156C Sierra's are wonderful in 95 chamber.
I have 3 new Palma barrels 12 twist all with 95 chamber.

On 175's Berger OEM Tactical are better in my barrels.

I had a .308 with a palma chamber not so long ago. 155gr Scenars worked great out of it, in fact, taking less effort to get a good shooting load out of that barrel than any other bullet I tried. They shot well at any COAL I tried, but I settled on a base-to-ogive of 2.091 as shooting slightly better than the others. 45r R15 was giving me about 2885fps from a 24" Brux barrel.

I loaded them at 2.850" oal. Upon closing the bolt they sosft seated a little deeper. I pulled the round out and checked it but cannot remember the length. It was somewhere near 2.840"

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. Tried to set up a load with 155 scenar. Even with the bullet touching the lands I have the bearing surface going way pas the neck and almost into the body.

Don't let that deter you from trying it.

A while back I loaded some 240 gr SMK's in a 300winmag with little freebore... they shoot very well. Found a good node around 2,760 fps, 26" bbl, 76-76.5 gr RL-33

Here is a pic of how far down the case I had them loaded to touch the rifling...

The 155.5 Berger solves this problem

^^^This. The 155.5 Fullbore has as good (or even possibly a tad better) a BC as the 155 Scenar, but the BTO is more than 0.1" shorter (0.538" vs 0.643"). That ought to do the trick for you.
