153.5gr LRHT

You backed it down a bit, still shooting the same seating depth?
Yea same depth. I played with seating depth this morning and that’s right where it wanted to be. Thats the speed it dotted up at. I was hoping to run it a bit faster but you can’t argue with the gun, lol. I can have better ballistics or better accuracy..

Good to know. Every now and again I get a gremlin in my brain that I need to retest seating depth, but its still shooting great for me so im just gonna leave it alone.

I mean getting the best ballistics for the BC would be 26 nosler or 6.5-300 weatherby. Or 6.5 saum/wsms.

Accuracy wise i guess anything could work, some of the well known smaller cases would work. You dont need bc or velocity to be accurate, but I guess enough velocity with that bc helps be accurate at long ranges…

I almost built a 264 win mag or 26 nosler to run this bullet but went to a 28 nosler instead

I have got the 153s to shoot crazy well out of my 65 PRC at 3080 fps. Unfortunately they will only shoot this crazy tight with so little neck tension that I can twist the seated bullet with my fingers. If I get the brass issue solved this will be tough to beat.

The 153.5 out of a 6.5x47 got me my first 3” groups at 1000yds. It has been an easy to tune bullet in many barrels. 8 twist has been plenty, but I am at 5000ft so don’t take my word for it if you live at sea level.

I’m running them in a 6.5PRC. I tried the 156 and the 153.5 Bergers, the latter won. Extremely accurate out of that rifle.
Sean,
Considering one of these bullets for some long range bear hunting this fall. If the bears will cooperate, lol. Will be shooting my 6.5 SAUM. Any experience with either bullet in a hunting scenario? Good or bad as I am not committed to any bullet at this point. Comments from any and all are welcome. Thanks guys.

I have a 6.5 SAUM and loaded 156s with N570. They shot amazing groups and were super fast. I shot an antelope at 825 right behind the shoulder, missed the rib and the bullet didn't open up. That concerned me enough that I gave up on the 156s for hunting.

I have shot a few bears and they are a lot more stout than an antelope. Bullets may open up better with a bruin. Hope that helps.

I’ve been using the the 153.5s, my rifle likes that bullet more than the 156. We’ve shot quite a few deer and antelope between 450-760 yards with that bullet and it’s been great, DRT results. If I was gonna hunt bears I’d probably use something like an Accubond though, I used the 143 LR Accubond on an Aoudad hunt earlier this year and it gave some great results just over 600 yards, the wife shot hers at the same range and also had a good result. Both were one and done, tough animals.

Ive seen and experienced some bullet splash with Bergers and ELDXs in 6.5 and 7mm up close, I think those bullets do better at range with the way they are made, they expand well at lower velocities but can splash close. Bears are thick, I think an Accubond, long range Accubond or Barnes would be a good choice for LR bear hunting.

Not sure I helped that much but that’s what I’ve seen.

It does, thanks for sharing your experience in a hunting situation.

Thanks Sean, real world hunting experience is what I am looking for info wise. I will definitely look into your recommendations bullet wise as I am after one bear in particular and want the shot, if I get one, to be one and done!

When I lived in Alaska I always used partitions on brown and black bears, here in Arizona too but those were different scenarios. Wish I was more help. The 153.5 has been awesome on deer. Good luck Paul!. I need to get a bolt sent your way for fluting, I’ll take a look at your website and send ya a PM.

You guys that have posted velocity numbers in your 6.5x47s, mind if I ask what powder you're using and your barrel length?

Thanks

Out of my 6.5 PRC 28" Bartlien 8" twist, 55,5grs of V-V 565 produces 3,050 FPS; at Washoe County range (NV), I was hitting steel at 750 yards

I have been impressed with these in my 6
5-284, running 2995fps at 3.090coal. I shot these for over a year at Thunder Valley in tac class BR and steel matches, won some of both running these then moved to Georgia last year, this spring we shot at Dead Zero range in TN and I managed a 2.800" group at 1000yds. This definitely the bullet if you have the room to load it long. I just finished up a 6.5prc short action build and decided to give the 144gr lrht bullets a try since I'm limited to 2.950" coal, we'll see how it works out.
