I am thinking about making a 14 hornet or something in the mesquito catagory. What do you guys shoot and how do you like the mini calibers? Thanks

I have a 14/221 Walker and I think it's a neat niche round at best. As you most likely already know consumables and barrels are limited in supply. Honestly, a .17 will do everything a .14 will and can do. I don't know your skill level with sub calibers, but I wouldn't recommend a .14 as an entry caliber to get your feet wet.
If I hadn't come across a "killer deal" that included everything NIB,formed brass, FL dies, patches, 100+ bullets, cleaning rod & jag)to reload for it, I would stayed on the porch and stuck with the 17's & 20'S. I turn necks so I had Ken of K&M make me .14 pilot & expander mandrel. I also drew up the specs for him to grind me a .14 pilot for my Forster case trimmer and for a powder funnel I use a tiny alum one that's made to fill small perfume bottles. I did order 300 additional bullets from Genco as well.

As far as the Hornet case, I don't think it gets much better than the 17 Ackley Hornet and a 18-20 grain bullet.

I have a 17 already I was just really looking for something different. I know it doesn't have any real advantage except..... I don't have one. Do you know who offers barrels? I had a number for lawrence I believe that actually made cut barrels in 14, that alone would be amazing. Thanks

Pac Nor,541-469-7330) makes 3 groove 1-7" and 1-8" twist barrels.

I have a 14/221 with one of the last barrels Jeff Lawrence made. He is looking at selling his 14 cal barrel making gear, so the new owner or pacnor will be the choice. As mentioned, it is something fun to play with, but wont realy do anything the 17 cant. I like it for something different. Trying to squeeze H4350 powder into the little neck can be a pain, but ball poder gets in OK.
