130 Gr. in a 30-30

I am thinking of loading either a130 gr barnes ttsx or a 130gr. nosler ballistic tip in a bolt action 788 for deer hunting.
Anyone have any experience with either?
Thanks

I would not opt for the Barnes, go with a Nosler or Sierra. Many years ago, I used a Marlin with 130g speer flat points.

I've been unable to find 125-130gr bullets to try in mine. In 308 the 125 sierra pro hunter is devastating.

As much as I appreciate the TTSX design, it would not be my first choice for an M788 rifle in .30-30. I have used the Hornady 130 gr. Single Shot bullets and the Sierra 135 gr. Single Shot bullets in .30-30s for quite a while since I bought a bunch before they were discontinued. Super bullets just like the Sierra Pro Hunter. The TMK GameKing is another choice.

The 130 Barnes TTSX are available through Midway:

I did the Nosler combo. It struck me as a good combination with the 30-30 case. It was quite a few years ago though and can’t recall if they fed through the magazine.

The Nosler bullets, either ballistic tip or Accubond 125 grain are all I shoot in my .30-30s. They work very well on whitetails.

I have shot 125 Nolser BT's in my G2 Contender as well as 125 Hornady SST's I find the SSTs to be a bit tougher jacket. I also loaded some of the new 110gr & 125gr GMX Hornady bullets. They shot really well the 125 seemed a bit tougher than the 110. The 110 I think is almost perfect for the 30-30 should get just about 2850 out of the 110 in that bolt rifle. The 150 Gr blackout bullet from Barnes is also very well suited for the 30-30.

125gr BT are all you will need, deadly on deer. I am getting 3035 FPS out of my 308 18" AR 10. Wicked.

I’ve shot many deer with the 130 Barnes TTSX and many coyotes with the 125 Nosler BT.
Shoot me a PM and I’ll send you some with a long tested recipe that works in ar-10 or bolt guns very accurate. That’s in a .308…..

130 Barnes TTSX, 308
I loaded this bullet in a trimmed 308 Fed GM case, with a load of Varget that filled the case, seated the bullet to allow for the recommended taper crimp into the cannular, and then tried it in an old 788 Rem. I was stunned when it repeatedly delivered 1/2 inch or less three shot groups off the bench at 100 yards. Made me wish I owned that 788! It was scary accurate from an old economy budget rifle.

I also shoot the same load in a model 88 Winchester and it performs well within the ability of that rifle, with light recoil, excellent accuracy and penetration/expansion on whitetails. It is a Barnes bullet I like.

The load is from the Barnes manual. As a side note, I did load some with this compressed load without crimping and the bullet walked right back out a little. There is a reason they say to crimp it. Bought a Redding crimp die and settled that issue!

In a 30-30 I agree that a 125-130 grain bullet (those SP bullets were great) would shoot well and perform well
