123gr SST in a 260

These have been out for a while now, anyone shooting them in a 260? I bought a couple hundred to load up for deer and plinking. I loaded some test loads using H4350 starting at 42.0gr to 46.0gr in .5gr increments. The best groups were at 45.0, at 45.5 I had extractor marks on the brass so I didn't shoot the 46.0 loads. The best three shot group was less than .750" with no vertical stringing.

I'm thinking I may back up to 40.5 and go up to 43.0 and try it again. Also may load up some 4064 and Varget.

The rifle is a Savage model 16, it's a pencil barrel hunting rifle so I don't expect to set the world on fire.

Thanks.

I am running 39gr of IMR4064 in LC .308 made .260, 123 lapua and berger 120gr BT. using wolf primers and a bushed firing pin in a tube gun. 31.25" bbl. Accuracy is great and using the same load with Sierra spitzers has but 3 Sitka deer in the freezer. I was not trying to set speed records but made 3000fps in my gun and never really developed further. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Doc

You should start a new thread so the Amax is in the title :) I am interested in 123 amax loads for the 260, so we both will win.

Justin, your basically the same place as my 123 amax load. I just shortened my 28"mtu contour to 20.5" as I got a suppressor. with the suppressor I wanted to work up a load. lapua brass. 210m, h 4350, the chamber is for lapua brass with .079 freebore, amax 15 thou jump. 45.5 and 46 were best groups (in the one's, better than the long barrel!) 46.5 opened up. with out pressure signs, I have since loaded 45. 5 , 45.7. 45.9 with the middle load my choice. at 500 the waterline is very good. going out to 1k with it soon, maybe today.
