Before you write the shot off, consider the fact that several shooters every year at the King of Two Mile shoot in Raton hit targets that are about 24" wide at 3470yds. I have been to the shoot a couple times and seen such.

Contractors come in all sizes and roles, I was in Iraq to support some drone activities as an engineer.

http://www.anzioironworks.com/ I shot at the bench next to owner or one of the guys that works at Anzio Ironworks at one of the 1000yd shoots. He was shooting a 338 in an Anzio rifle. Once I was over there just shooting and he had a 50 caliber and one that was bigger (20mm maybe , not sure) he set the 50 on the empty bench next where he was shooting, and the muzzle break on the bigger rifle directed the blast back and to both sides and blew the 50 off the bench and onto the concrete. I don't know if you can see it in the video, the roof overhead (the video was shoot at Manatee range) bows up from muzzle blast every shot. I bet Alex the rifle guy has some stories about those big rifles also.
