Hello all, I am new to this site but not new to shooting. I am currently getting ready to have 6x284 built for long range varminting out to 1000 yards. Here are the specs on the rifle;
1. Nesika Model L, 1.70 Dia.
2. Krieger, 30", 4 groove, 1-8.5 twist, 1.450 dia straight taper
3. McMillan Tooley MBR
4. Jewel 2oz trigger
5. Vias muzzle brake
6. Davidson 20MOA Base
7. Kelby 30mm rings
8. Nightforce 8x32x56mm NXS
I have all the parts, I just have to have it built.
I am wanting to use the 105grn A-Max for varminting. It seems to be the best overall bullet for expansion and BC .500. My question is, how does this bullet work on small varmints such as squirrels and PDogs.
Also, how fast can I push this bullet. I am chambering the rifle in 6x284 and it has the ability to push 105grn bullets at 3500fps. I know the 105grn A-Max bullets can not be pushed that fast.
I have heard that it can be pushed to 3300fps with out having any blow up problems as long as you have the correct grooves in the barrel. As mentioned above, my Krieger barrel will have 4 grooves and is a 1-8.5 twist, will I be able to push this bullet at the higher velocities.
Also, do you have any other bullet recommendations. I used the 87grn V-Max in my last 6x284 and it worked great. However, for this project I am wanting to use the heavier bullets with better BC.
