Good Load for 105grn A-MAX & 87grn V-Max

What is a good load for the 105grn A-Max and 87grn V-Max out of a 28" 1-8 twist barrel. I am building a new 6BR for varmints and want to run the 105grn A-Max or 87grn V-Max. The Chamber will be a no-turn .272 neck, and I will be using Lapua brass.

I have a 1-8 twist McGowen barrel and it loves the 105 A-Max bullets. The best load for MY barrel is 27.4 grains of H4895, Fed 205M primer, in Norma or Lapua brass.

6BR -

Sorry - a little off subject. I am also building a rifle for varmint shooting. Just wondering for your build what stock did you choose?

Thanks

In my Savage low profile varminter with a 26" Shilen barrel my best load with 105 AMAX, CCIBR4, Varget 31.5-32.0 grains.
This is the upper load and 32.5 is the maximum load in this gun. There is another node at 28.5 and another around 30.0 in this gun.

Ditto for the Varget loads. Mine is a 1-8 Shilen 30" 272nk, shooting 30grs of Varget and Fed Gold match primers. It was literaly the fastest load workup I've ever done shooting 2-3's at 100yds with both the 105Amax and 107SMK.

For the 87`s, try H4895. Find out the fastest your gun wants to shoot and go from there. I think 30.5gr.is a safe start point. If your going to shoot past 300yrds with them you should use a compariter to seperate bearing surface. Some lots are pretty bad...

Patchound, I think I am going to use the 105grn A-Max for shots past 300 yards. I have heard the 87grn V-Max are showing bearing surface problems on some of their lots of bullets. I might go with the 88grn Berger over the 87grn V-Max. I know the 88grn Berger want be as explosive as the V-Max, however, IMO it will be more accurate and consist ant. What about the 95grn Ballistic Tips, how are they as far as bearing surface, etc. I am going to stick with 87grn and 107grn bullets for my 6BR. It is being throat ed for 87 to 107grn bullets and will be throat ed with a .100 lead Match Lapua Reamer. This rifle will be used for 300 to 1000 yard varmint,PDogs & Squirrels) shots. I am building a nice Rock River AR-15, 223, for 0 to 300 yard shots, so I will be using the smaller bullets out of that rig. I think the new Custom 6BR and Rock River AR-15 will be the perfect varmint combo for short and long range varminting. I used to use a 243AI and 6x284, but I have had enough of buying new barrels and having them re-chambered. So, I sold those two rifle to build a full custom 6BR. I look forward to getting some more info from you all.
