105 vld to 108bt

Ive been shooting 105gr vlds for a bit in a new barrel and got a couple of hundred 108gr BT's to try as well. Just wondering if anyone has shot the 105's and the 108's in a 6br and noticed a change in velocity between the two with the same powder charge?

In my Dasher they shot close to the same powder charge. I didn't chronograph but the elevation was real close to the same for 1000 yard zero. Matt

hey matt ..how did it all go .. i havent shot mine but i did notice in my gun touching the lands the 105gr hybrids are 1.789" and the 108gr BT are 1.815 or something close to that ..thats in my barrel which has done 1500 rounds now

The shape of the nose makes them a little different. I used the same charge with both bullets. Velocity has to be about the same because my come up at 1000 was real close. They both shot about the same accuracy. I never compared to Hybrid though because the Hybrid didn't shoot that well in my gun. The 105 VLD and the 108BT both shot in the lands at .010. The VLD shot tighter clusters but the groups were almost identical at 1000 I believe the 108 BT was easier to tune though. I mostly shoot the VLD though. They both ended up with the same powder charge and ran 3020 or so. Matt

Matt, do you think that the VLD's are consistently more accurate? Say if you shot 20 groups of 5 shots for each group, over a period of 3 different days, would the 105's shoot say 12-15 of those groups better or would they be close as in 11-12 or something along those lines. I am not a BenchRester but I have found the 108's to be extremely accurate>>>nigh onto the same plane as the VLD's.. But as I stated, I am not shooting BR>>>just shooting at 600 and 1000..

What I have seen is the VLD shoots tighter knots. They tend to leak one or two out. The groups usually end up about the same. It seems the 108 BT shoots a small round group without the leakers. I like the VLD for the possibility that if it doesn't leak them out you will shoot a dandy, like maybe a record or extremely small. I don't have a heavy gun in a Dasher and that is where you would really see the difference. I haven't shot my Dasher at all this year. Last time I shot it was at Reade Range and it set a 6 match score record and missed the 6 match group record by a couple of thousandths. I have really thought about building one in a heavy. On another thought my buddy is shooting one in both heavy and light and he is shooting some extremely small groups with the 107 Pointed Sierra. He has had 9 shots in the 3 inch range and sometimes a lot smaller with both guns. Now this is 1000 yards benchrest. It also seems the VLD is a little harder to tune. Matt

If I'm not mistaken Rodney Wagner shot the world record of .336 using 108's at our club in N.C. Piedmont gun club. The club measured it at .349 and it was later verified by the IBS as .336 I pulled the target. I asked Rodney what he was shooting and he told me 108's can be verified on our club website equipment list on the May 2013 600 yard match results, there's also a picture of the target just click on pics. at the bottom of the results graph. ;)

Those of you that are shooting the 105 VLD , is it the target vld or the hunting vld? I see the BC is higher for the hunting VLD

i used to shoot the hunting vlds as they were a better bc than the target vlds, only diff is the hunting have a thinner jacket and i also used them for hunting as well as target,so it saved doing more load development.. i switch to hybrids and groups got smaller by approx .2 of an inch
so hoping 108gr will be around the hybrids
