105 vld berger

has anyone had any problems with 105 vlds blowing up and at what speed.also my old 105 had a pn 243105v the new ones are varmit and target whats closer to what i had.thank you

Bob, I have never lost a 105 VLD but have lost quite a few 80 gr. VLD's in a 22 Dasher. I just don't get enough velocity with my 6 BRX to run into trouble with the regular 105 VLD's. Here is a link to a thread on Benchrest Central on the Berger 105 VLd's I think you will find informative. Note the post in this thread from Eric Stecker at Berger.

Good luck,

Rodney,

What bbl length do you run on your BRX and what velocity do you get with the 100 gr bullets.

I have a new BRX and am looking for some comparisons.

I watched a good number of the THIN jacket 105VLDs go poof at 2950 or so in a 6XC and about 3100 in a 243Win. But I doubt you are going to see it with the new ones, though I havent specifically tested the 105s yet to see if I could MAKE one go poof.

I have tried, very deliberately, to get a 115VLD THICK to blow up and have failed miserably, thankfully, at my quest. I ran almost 50 in a row, nonstop, one after another with only a few seconds in between shots, with them running over 3100fps out of a 6XC using Re17 and had NO failures. I have shot almost 400 of them so far and havent lost a single one.

I am willing to bet the 105 thicks will do the same. I have shot about 100 of those so far and no issues, other than some outstanding accuracy.

I am a total fan of the thin lacket 105 VLD and I was pushing them well beyond 3200 in load development of my 6X47's and my 6XC's. I never once had one disintegrate. You are freaking me out now!

I have a tack-drivin' load for my 6X47 with a thin-jacketed 1:7/105Beger VLD at 3150 fps that gives a 'BR a run for its money.
