105 gr Lapua Bullets

Anyone out there shooting the 105 Lapua in their BRX?

You hear everyone shooting the SMKs or the Berger but very little of Lapua.

What about velocity and accuracy with Varget or Rel 15?

Just curious.

I'm sure there are a few that are using them and they shoot. I know for me, the price and availability of them keep me from shooting them. I have 100 on hand, but never tried them. As for velocity...they will be on par with the Bergers and SMK's. Varget and R15 works great. My Dasher prefers Varget though. The key is, find what shoots for you.

My batch of 6mm 105gr Lapua Scenars shoot great in a 0.236 PacNor 8-twist. They are extremely consistent--both in weight and base to ogive measurement. As consistent as any bullet I've ever tested. In this older batch the meplats are nice and small and they fly up to their stated G1 BC rating at 600 yards. These bullets have shot 1.6' at 600 yards in practice.

The only negative is that they are 'skinny' compared to some other 6mm pills. The shank diameter is about 0.2428. Some of the Bergers are 0.2435. So... some barrels love the 105 Scenars, others shooter better with 'fat' bullets.

Like he moderator said, the Lapua 6mm 105 Scenar is a well made and very consistent bullet. I particularly love the meplat consistency above all.

I have only tried the mollied version, Silver Jacket, with great results in a number of 6BR rifles in my inventory. Most barrels are Krieger 30' with the exception of a 27' that likes them just the same. The 27' did great at 1,000 yds this past weekend, keeping X ring elevation through out the powder testing period.

The only barrel I have that doens't seem to like them as much is a Benchmark 27', which is unwilling to go under half inch, regardless of all the vodoo approaches I've tried. Then again, this barrel won't go under 0.40' with any other.

Pricewise, if you buy them by the 1,000 count sleeve, you'll find the price acceptable when compared to others.

Happy shooting,

Andy

I only shoot Lapua 105's in my 6br at 600y F-Class. They are very consistant and will easily hold the 3' X-ring at 600y. I am shooting them out of a Krieger 1-8 twist HV with 30.2g of varget and a 450primer. Groups at 100 in the teens.
