105 berger hybryd

I used the 105 berger hybrid in my 6br on prairie dogs yesterday. my rifle really likes these bullets but there is no expansion at all. is there another bullet that is as accurate but will kill prairie dogs

Berger makes an 87 gr. Hunting VLD that should expand well and give extra velocity for the 6 BR. Although I haven't shot prairie dogs with it, I have found it to be a very accurate bullet.

I was wondering about the hunting bullet but their website said they enter 2-3 inches and then expand. that may be good for deer but not prairie dogs

Is the 105 Hybrid not killing the prairie dogs? I mean, if they are, then DEAD is DEAD. Unless your are really looking for a load that explodes the prairie dog..

I watched two of them craw into the hole after they had been flipped into the air. I looked at one of the dead ones, you could only see a little spot of blood. Without an autopsy, I could not see the entrance or exit hole.

I have shot plenty of prairie dogs with the 105 Hunting VLD’s. No they are not 55 grain V-Max’s going 4,000 fps but they do the job quite well. 0-500 yards then shoot light flat shooting bullets such as Nosler ballistic tips or v-Max’s Beyond that or when the wind blows I will take my 105 HVLD’s any day.

You may want to check with CT10Ring - Bill shoots a light bullet on PD's

With the 105 hybrids, I noticed that were a a lot of ricochet. That is another thing I want to prevent. Do hunting bullets expand enough to kill the dogs? I would love for them to work.

What you need is a slow twist 6mm to shoot the 80gr Berger FB Varmint.

Problem is that fast twist 6mm barrels tend to molest the fragile 6mm explosive bullets. If they don't blow up, they'll at least loose their structural integrity enough to affect their true accuracy.

Explosive bullets tend to have thinner jackets. Fast twist + thin jacket = no bueno amigo.

I had to slow down 80 gr bergers in a 243win 8" twist down to 2,900 fps because at 3,200+ fps some of the bullets would not reach 200 yards before falling apart in the air.

Another thing to add...

I never had a 58gr V-max blow up when shot from an 8" twist, so they probably have thicker jacket than the 80gr berger's.
