We had to find a good vantage point, and setup with the wind as much as possible. On that spot I was able to consistently range mounds out to 1200+ yards. Often times a miss would end in failure because the dog would run to another mound or dive for cover. I got lucky on this one. Ranged the mound at 1013. First shot was a bit high, and the dog didn’t move. Thinking back, probably because I didn’t account for the down angle. Made one small adjustment, second shot was left by only an inch or two. He ran away and then came back to same spot. Put the crosshair on right side of his body and toppled him.
We drove out to the mound and then ranged back to the hill we were sitting on. 1010 yds from the dog to the bench. Definitely some luck involved, but a lot of practice and effort too (and money).
