Tikka Hands down the most accurate smoothest rifle out of the box you can buy. Here is a 5 shot group shot from a factory T3 Hunter with the walnut stock. Bone stock, no bedding, no trigger spring nothing. All I did was mount a Leupold scope on it and take it to the range. I have done load development on multiple Tikka rifles and every one of them have shot half inch or better.

Tikka. I own a few of their factory - stock rifles. They don’t disappoint. I have both stock sporter barrel and some of their heavy barrel rifles. Are they equal to a good custom? Absolutely not but they are a tremendous value. Here’s 5 shots out of my 20” CTR last week, 6.5 creed. Every Tikka I have shoots the first three under. 5, the lighter sporter barrels open a bit after the fourth or fifth round if fired one right after another with no cool down in between. The best value going in a factory rifle under 1k imo.

How about less than $1K?
Pre 64 Win 70
Howa 1500
Tikka T3 Hunter (wood stock)
Savage FCP-SR
Early Remington 600 (if you can find one)
CZ550, any variant.
1950 mod 70, 375 H&H bought used in Alaska in 1974 from an old trapper who bought it new in Anchorage, said he had hunted with it for over 20 years and was doubling his money on it, I paid him $400 for it. Picked up another one in 300H&H also made in 1950 to hunt in the lower 48 with in the late 70s because I liked the other one so well, paid $700 for that one, but it was still in the box... John

I have a few pre '64's. My first was a 270fwt I bought out of Shotgun News. I've added a couple over the years. I have to say when FN took production so South Carolina they made a rifle every bit as nice as the pre 64's. I'm not sure about what they produce today but I got a couple from that era I love. .257 Roberts featherweight is my favorite.

I had to, SPEND $2,300.00 to build, a 10 Pound, Medium Heavy Barreled, 6 XC, Rem 700, Rifle to "beat", the accuracy of, my 7.5 Pound, .243 Win Tikka "Sporter" by,.. a 1/10th of an Inch.
I'd guess that, 75 % of Hunters / Shooters, are aware of, Tikka's, Supreme Accuracy, Unless living under, a Rock,..
back in, the Stone Age ! I wish that they'ed ADD a couple of Newer "Accurate" Cartridges to their Line up,..
the 7 RSAUM, .284 Win., 6 XC, and the 6 G T / .22 G T, ( ALL with, appropriate Twist / Throat ),.. come to mind.

wow! I have never owned one but heard great things. I am definitely leaning towards one in 308.
Thanks for the input. If you have any reloading info on a 308, let me know.

To "Optimize" your Tikka, spend another,.. $100- $120. Extra for,.
a Kydex Cheek riser, a LimbSaver Recoil pad and an Ernie the Gunsmith or Elay Precision, Trigger Spring.
I use, Ernie Springs for Big Game Hunting ( 2-2.5 Lbs ) and Elay's Springs ( 1.25 Lbs), on my Target / Varmint, Rifles.
Check stock for Forearm, freefloat clearance and, a STEEL Recoil Lug, Loctite Bases & Lap Rings THEN, "Tune" Bullet for, Group,.. Perfection !
