$10 Million Shooting Complex

There was a thread started about this in early spring…I believe that’s when it was.

seems like a lot of money for a shooting range.
Not in this day and time with all the facilities they list that they want. Proper back stop designs with a long range consideration for ever increasing requirements for removal and recycling of projectiles, baffling (or design considerations for future baffling ) for projectile control even in a "wilderness environment", security and activity monitoring systems, run off catch basins, paving, classroom, office, meeting room, building and infra structure. The days of excavating a few shooting lanes and pushing up a dirt berm are quickly disappearing in the rear view mirror even on your personal 40 acres or remote hunting camp. Part of gaining more control over the citizenry.

Being a state facility it and its construction will be scrutinized by every conceivable regulatory agency in the state even though it is in a conservative state.

A million dollars doesn't go as far as it once did regretfully.

I'm in illinois. The state built a world class shooting complex in Sparta that hosts the grand American trap shoot each year.it has a mile and a half trap line with 120 fields, sporting clays, pistol, rifle and archery ranges as well as a huge campground. It's a really nice complex, and it was surprising the state spent the money to build it. The last I had heard after completion the tab was north of 40 million so 10 million isn't surprising. Nice to see Wyoming stepping up to do something for shooters.

If they make the shooting benches part climate controlled for winter shooting
When I lived in Big Piney, WY, we had a bench house for winter shooting. It contained a HUGE wood-burning stove to keep the place warm. As soon as the trap-door-like front was opened...All bets were off! Shooting in WY. is not pleasant at all during the winter months. You don't move around enough to keep warm. But, if they can make it work, it would be sweet.

Michigan has a fair amount of state run firearms rangers. 20 minutes from where I live ,one of the state run rifle range has bench set ups for 50, 100, and 200 yards. I believe it's the MI DNR who manage the firearms ranges. There is another state run firearms range about 40 minutes from where I live that has handgun, rifle, skeet, trap, and sporting clays. Both of these firearms ranges are well maintained, and always staffed with a RO.
