Wyoming finalizes State Shooting Complex lease without formal environmental review or wildlife stipulations - WyoFile
Game and Fish officials say they would have been out of bounds pursuing rigid safeguards for mule deer, or other big game species, at a 3-square-mile state-owned site south of Cody.wyofile.com
Kind of like the NFR going on now at Vegas, makes no sense except for the wow factor and $’s.It's ashamed they put this in Cody. Riverton in the center of the state or Casper. Casper being the better of the two as they have more to offer..
I have never driven through Casper in anything less than a 30mph wind and I go through twice a year on my way to and from Deep Creek. My perception from this is that shooting there would not yield very flattering results. My “home” range is CRC in Byers, Colorado. The wind there can be quite mercurial to downright ferocious and I have talked to many shooters who don’t go to CRC events because of the wind there. The 2 times I have driven through Cody, the weather was mild and pleasant. I would attend a LRBR event there if they held one. It's ashamed they put this in Cody. No that was the Cody Shooting Complex. I was there helping with the event. It's a great range. Is this in the same area as where shot the Industry Masters Match a few years back?
I was thinking it was north of Cody a little bit?
We all, especially me, had a great time there and the town's hospitality was second to none.
Cody seems a big draw Spring/Summer as it is a gateway to Yellowstone but wondering how many of the tourists will be bringing guns and ammo with them?
The wind blow in Wyoming all the time. Cody is no different than Casper, Cheyenne, Rawlins or any other place in Wyoming. However if one would like to learn to shoot in the wind come to Wyoming where we blow semi's off the road and train cars off the tracks.I have never driven through Casper in anything less than a 30mph wind and I go through twice a year on my way to and from Deep Creek. Last week I80 between Rawlins and Co border 39 demi trucks were blown over. My son came to Lander yesterday. Still 7 trucks laying in borrow ditch. South Pass about 25 miles south of Lander had 123 mph wind. Lander had 74 mph wind. When I grew up the 50's and 70's Lander had a weather station. We were almost always in top three stations with the LEAST wind in the US. Not so anymore. We had to build box kites cause not enough wind to fly a regular kite. Those were the days! The wind blow in Wyoming all the time. Cody is no different than Casper, Cheyenne, Rawlins or any other place in Wyoming.
