10-22 speed shooting

I have 3 10-22, one is Kidd Supergrade set up for long range. The next one is a Factory Target, in a Raptor stock, and Kidd 2 stage trigger, this gun is setup for off hand shooting with a 6 X 24 V Weaver scope.
The next one is set up for speed steel, with a Tru Glo red dot. It works great out to 30 yds, pass that I have trouble seeing the targets. I am thinking something like a 1 x 4 or so power scope. Midway has this one on sale.

With the scoped gun I do give up speed with the 6X setting. Will I be giving up speed with a scope, even at 1X. Has anyone shot both a dot and a 1X scope?

In small bore steel challenge you are giving up speed with a scope of any kind. The experience that I have is with the challenge matches at the local range. You need to get away from stopping on each target to shoot it and flow from one to the next, without stopping, to get your speed up. This is done by "locking" the firearm in your hold so the sights are in alignment so as the target appears you are firing. It is nearly the same as instinctive firing. I trained myself to shoot this way with a pistol a long time ago and the first time I fired at the match I realized that after the first target I didn't remember even seeing the sights. I got all 7 targets in 1.5 seconds. Not too bad for an old man. I was considerably slower with my rifle because I am trained to have sight alignment on the target before shooting. I had to retrain myself to get faster and not use the scope.
