10-22 questions

I have a older 10-22 from the 90’s . It has a midway fluted barrel and a laminated thumb hole stock , not sure who’s it is.
I want to shoot out to 250 yards at steel kyl racks. The barrel is touching all around the barrel channel. Should I sand it out so it free floated for better accuracy? I know all my ceterfire stuff is free floated, not sure about 22 rimfire.
What about triggers for these guns also , what do you guys reccomend for upgrading?

Yes free float the barrel!
Trigger.... Ruger BX is nice for the money about 2.75 pounds for $60ish, a KIDD trigger (or parts) are the way to go.
Sounds like a decent start to a rifle!

A Kidd trigger group would be my choice.

There's a guy in Connecticut that reworks the factory to about 8 oz's. I think it called CTC...I'll check .

1. The guy in Connecticut is Randy at Connecticut Precision Chambering, https://www.ct-precision.com/. He specializes in 1022 work, and his work is excellent.

2. As for free floating the barrel, your rifle will tell you; shoot it as is, then, if the accuracy is unsatisfactory, free float it. Some 1022s shoot better free floated, some don't, so be prepared to put a rubber pad (like a piece of bicycle/motorcycle/automobile inner tube) in the barrel channel close to the muzzle if free floating degrades things.

3. In my experience, the Kidd trigger parts kit is a really excellent and very reasonably priced upgrade for the improvement it yields, and saves lots of money compared to a complete Kidd trigger assembly - but if you can stand the financial end of it, the complete Kidd trigger assemblies are something special, especially the 2 stage one. Being sort of cheap,we stick with the parts kit, lol.
