1:11 or 1:10 twist for a 20 cal

I currently have a 20 tac with nothing but problems and stumbled across a nice tl3, so to fix my issue I’m building another lol. My current has a 1:11 twist and works great but my supplier has barrels on sale but only in 1:10 twist.

the only thing I’m interested in shooting is 35gr bergers and 39gr blitzkings. Should I order a 1:11 or go with the 1:10?

Exactly my scenario currently Matt...watching with interest. I want to shoot the 35's and 39's. Does the ole rule apply..."fast twist will shoot lights and heavies, and slow twist will shoot only lights"? I was really contemplating a Wilson barrel, just wanting to give it a try for the price, but they only offer a 10 and 12 twist.

My one supplier is having a sale right now and he only stocks 10 twists (benchmark barrels) and the other supplier will do any twist any contour with pretty quick lead times (ks arms barrels) and wasn’t sure if I should just order the 11 twist from them

Sounds like maybe a 10 twist is in your future...being on sale and in stock.

Was it Mr Litz that mentioned the "whopping" single digit loss of velocity for an inch of twist? I have several 11s but would trade for 10s jic should someone start mfrg 45s or 48s.

Matt- I have 2 204 rifles and a 20Practical- all have 1 in 12 twists and they shoot 32 gr Vmax, and Sierra, 35 Bergers,39 Sierras and 40 vmax great. The 20 Practical has a Kreiger and the 204's have a Shilen and factory
(XR 100) Remington barrels. I also have a 1 in 12 Kreiger waiting for one of the active barrels to burn out.
When I first ordered a Kreiger I asked them what twist they recommended for 32 -40 grain bullets and they recommended a 12. Turned out they were right for me.

If anyone can answer the question one man can positively answer it,Bibs bullets , Randy Robinet . Google the bullet Company for contact information. Could you PM me your suppliers name and contact information, I am looking for one .
Phone number is (515-438-4010)

Thanks everyone! I’ll try the 1:10 twist.

big named brand blanks in Canada at 625-699 with benchmark around the 650 mark, and they are 475 right now so wanted to jump on it while I can.

The TC Dimension 204r barrel I use is a 10 twist, so when I assembled an AR upper in 20p, I ordered a 10 twist BHW barrel. Both are very accurate, I have found the 40 gr bullets work very well on coyote.

I put together a 20 Practical with a fast gain twist Bartlien to shoot the 55gr Berger's and it shoots the 39gr Blitzking's great too. I thought they might come apart before reaching the target but they held up to the extra twist just fine

I have put on 7 or 8 20 cal 11 twist Benchmark barrels. One 204 Ruger and the rest 20 tac. Four of them shot 5 shot groups in the zeros at 100 yards with 39 grain Blitzkings. One of them preferred 40 grain Berger and two of them shot in the high teens. I love Benchmarks 20 cal barrels.

What contours do you typically use for those 11 twist barrels. Just out of interest as would like to try a 20 cal myself.

Following this thread, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a 10 twist as well. Gonna try the Wilson #4 for the money. $170 bones U.S. Having said that, have any of you knowledgable folks tried or have data on the 40 gr Nosler BT. With limited supply of everything, I grabbed 300 rnds of these to get started. Primary mission is coyotes and other vermin. Didn't really find any reviews on them.

I never had very much luck with their accuracy. My reamer is the same specs as cooper, .039 freebore
