1-10 twist 22-250.....

Son in law has a Ruger 1-10 twist 22-250. I am going to do some load work for it. Question, how heavy of a bullet will it stabilize?? And what powders should I look at for doing load development with the heavier bullets in the 250??? Thanks Guys!!!

Even with the velocities the 22-250 is capable of producing, the 10-twist barrel is likely to limit bullet weight/length to perhaps somewhere in the 70-73 gr range, realistically. You might be fortunate enough to have a barrel that will allow you to get away with shooting 75s or 77s, but the only way to know for sure is to test them. There are a number of online reloading resources such as the A.S Cartridge Guide RegionRat listed above, or you can have a look at some of the various powder/bullet manufacturers' websites for reloading data:

Thank you!! I also looked it up but so many are the 1-14 twist and most of the data is for those or the 1-8 custom barreled rifles.

I had very good luck with 69 grain sierra match kings with imr 4350 in a rem. 788 with a 10 twist .

Your 1:10 has an SG of 1.51 with a Sierra 65 SBT Gameking at sea level.

One you start going to bullets longer than 0.852", you will want to check the stability. Going higher than sea level gives you some margin.

With that 65 SBT, you would try powders like Varget, H4350, H4895, RE15, etc. and you will do fine.
It wasn't a picky caliber in that twist, but I didn't keep it long. Mine did not do well heavier than the 69 to 70 grain bullets, which was why the next one was a faster twist in order to use SMK 77 and SMK 80 which I always have laying around.

To run stability checks on different bullets and twists, you need to do just a little homework to feed the SG calculators from Berger or JBM. You will need the length and BC of the bullet. You can find the BC from most manufacturer's web sites or manuals, and length can be found in this linked list.
