To truly be hated on with a post concerning a Savage rifle ( and with the possible exception of a Tikka just about any factory rifle short of something like an AI ), you really have to go to Sniper`s Hide.

I got thrown off years ago because I had the audacity to suggest that painting a $4000 rifle in Krylon camo wasn’t a great idea.

Back when the fighting was going on big time in Iraq, soldiers claimed that they needed something to lighten up the mood so they would read Sniperhide as comic relief.

I don't like that Savage has a poor system for a sear and trigger, I don't like the adjustable threaded firing pin, I don't like the endless nomenclature of models and different receiver screw spacing, the bolt handle on the end of the bolt, large and small shanks. But there is no denying they are easy to work on, and change barrels and chamberings. And there is NO denying some shoot exceptionally well.

I lit a bonfire on Snipersden the other day when I started a post stating my $1000 Savage Axis II Precision rifle can be accurate and posted a pix of a shotgun shell I hit in the primer from a 100.yards. Almost immediately they came out of the woodwork like roaches after me. The comments were filled with gay sex innuendos and comments most boards would never tolerate. They got very personal, and I fired back, drawing more out of the woodwork and comments got even more outrageous. It's already 12 pages of them going into grand mal seizures of tourettes syndrome

Thats because they have a $4000 rifle like above painted with Krylon, and they just saw what you did and they know they can't duplicate with the $4000 rifle Krylon and all.

I had a friend ask me this same thing for an informal local match with factory rifles. We picked up a Howa 24” hb barreled action from Brownell’s and an oem hb takeoff stock. Had to be 10lbs or less and he was worried about weight w/ his scope choice so I milled 6 large, deep flutes in the barrel. That rifle ended up shooting 3/8ths type MOA and he was just floored how it shot. Said it was as reliably accurate as his better custom barreled rifles. This was 6.5 Creedmoor and handloads, but just about anything he loaded he said was 1/2 MOA.

I`ve been interested in the Bergara HMR line but have been seeing some bad quality reports of late. Gives one cause for pause.

I recently sold a .308 HMR and bought a tikka 6.5cm and put it in a KRG bravo. In the end they are similarly priced rifles

The the tikka trigger is in my opinion much better and the KRG Bravo is more comfortable

A Tikka varmint in a Bravo is probably the best value out there at around $1,350

I have enjoyed reading this thread. I got over the magnums and the far reaching rifles years ago but the information posted here has been interesting and entertaining.

I enjoy the practical firearms now and accuracy is still the point and a 16" barreled AR that hits steel at 800 in my opinion is practical.
