  1. Reason why some die mfrs don’t make Wilson style seaters

Answer to the question....Different strokes for different folks and not everyone drives a Ford. I use Wilson seaters on some of my rifles, Redding on some and even Forster on one. The reason, depending on the brass and caliber of the weapon, different seater gave me better = more consistent...
  2. Case Neck Trimming, correct procedure

DennisH, During the FL process, your casings may well stretch and therefore the lengths of the necks may vary. Now if you only Neck Size, then you won't get that variance in Neck length that FL resizing may cause. So you can trim your casings after Neck Resizing only. Personally, I FL...
  3. New to me dies

Great advice by Dusty. I have both Redding Die Sets for my .260 Rem and they set up the same. The only difference is that I can control Neck Tension with the "S"Dies and that gives me an edge on accuracy/group size. I also bought Peterson Brass for my .260 and they shoot as well as Lapua ever...
  4. .30 BR 155gr

Sam, Your barrel twist rate is off for a .30BR. 30BR's usually employ 17 - 18 twist rate barrels that give the best accuracy. Might consider another caliber as others have suggested. Take a look at the info in the Bulletin section under 30BR for more info. Just my .02 worth. Alex
  5. Rear bag

+1. I, like Chris, have and use Protector Rear Bags. And I use a particular Rear Bag depending on the stock/rifle I am shooting. I do not believe there is such a thing as "one bag fits all" when chasing the best possible accuracy from each rifle I shoot. And I no longer compete, but still...
  6. Newbi on Bench on front Bench Rest

Andrew, Take a look at Bruno's website. Yesterday I saw they were advertising a nice USED Sinclair BR Rest at a very reasonable price....as I remember something like $495 that comes with a load bullet holder...nice rest for sure. Alex
  7. Longer Gun Case - Good Job Cabela’s!

Only issue with that model gun case, is the weight. Be ready because it's great for shipping rifles, but cumbersome for weekly range shooting. Found lighter ones that I bought so my 2 heavies sit more than they get used. Just my .02 worth. Alex
  8. Newbi on Bench on front Bench Rest

+1. For the money, you cannot beat the Bald Eagle Slingshot. I have the Rock/Caldwell (for a long time) that I used to shoot on and then got into Benchrest and spent $600+ to get into the more accurate rests. But a former friend bought a Bald Eagle that I did a bit of customizing (to better...
  9. Barrel life

I used to have a 22-250 that I changed calibers on simply because as Steve stated, a 22-250 is a barrel burner and also ate my Lapua brass faster than any other calibers I was reloading for. Its another story that some calibers INHERENTLY have issues that other calibers do not have, such as...
  10. Sinclair/Wilson seater one year later...??

Just another case of a manufacturer coming out with the "latest and greatest" that flopped. NO it is NOT worth the asking price and my older models work just as well. The new pricing has also enticed me to look at other brands which I've found work just as well (if not better) and I don't have...
  11. HERE'S WHAT WE'RE UP AGAINST

Gives you a better understanding of some of what the NRA is up against. Another good reason NOT to support those on that list. Glad to see Oliver North come aboard to help keep our rights and guns as well. Alex
  12. Is it The Load, The Gun Or The SHOOTER?

Bart pretty much said it all. But beyond KNOWING your rig, load and shooter capabilities, having the knowledge and experience to recognize which is the culprit, doesn't happen overnight. Excuses are like navels....everyone has one. Knowing how to fix it once you've recognized (or admitted)...
  13. Sight in

It obviously ain't broken SO DON'T FIX IT!!!!
  14. Looking for powder recommendations for 223 69 gr smk bullet with 1:10 twist

Might consider VVN140 at around 24grs, plus or minus a few tenths. I don't have or load for a Tikka so I haven't a clue what your rifle likes in a .223. But my AR's and bolt .223 like the V140 pushing 69gr Sierras. Alex
  15. Newbie questions .308

Jeff, I just came across your post and have a few suggestions that may help you. When it comes to "accuracy shooting" and testing for the best load, there are a few imperatives and rules that are time proven that assists in getting you the best accuracy out of a specific rifle. One of those...
  16. Can't trim to chamber length

Davey Boy, FWIW, most Reloading Manuals show to trim brass to 2.005. So that is what I trim all my brass to and keep it there. But when it comes to the overall length of a loaded round, I measure by Ojive and could care less about what overall length reads. And that Ojive measurement has...
  17. What has happened to the rifle ranges? All ARs now, no chronographs.

IMHO, there are far less Benchrest Shooters coming up from the millennials than in past generations. I have and shoot both AR's and Bench Guns. But my focus is still accuracy and consistency from my own handloads. How much BRASS are you seeing left behind these days? Not much anymore on this...
  18. Scratches on brass neck

+1. Seems inevitable with some dies no matter how much you've polished it. I found those scratches have NO effect on accuracy or case runout. Alex
  19. Case Neck Runout

+1. Works great for me with runout consistently under .02 and rarely over .02. Alex
