  1. Shooting after bypass

I've had coronary bypass surgery twice - once in 1995 and again in 2009. I'm not comfortable laying on my belly so don't think I can shoot prone any more. I admit, though, that I haven't actually tried it. Other positions are OK, or would be if I weren't also old and shaky. So I just shoot...
  2. 9mm luger ?

Why? You can use this brass easily if you either swage or ream out the primer pocket. I prefer swaging since I once used a primer pocket reamer on a bunch of bass only to find out later that I hadn't gone deep enough. So I bought an RCBS primer pocket swaging tool which quickly, easily and...
  3. Guns and ammo purchases on credit cards get a new code

The trouble with that is that you don't have the ability to dispute a charge. True, this may not mean much for a face-to-face transaction in a local gun shop, but it can be important in an on-line purchase.
  4. vudoo v22s Single shot stock recomendations

Not too far apart. I worked with Dusty's dad for decades before my retirement, and consider him a lifelong friend. I first met Dusty when he was a boy of about 8. My "Central AR" is in Bryant. So...good guess on your part!
  5. .22lr Cleaning Rods

Ditto. I have 6 or 8 cleaning rods of various makes, lengths and diameters that I've acquired over the past 10-12 years. IMO the best by far are the Bore Tech Bore Stix. Coated and stiffer than carbon fiber rods of the same diameter, they also have the best ball bearing system. The tips...
  6. vudoo v22s Single shot stock recomendations

Won't the single shot Vudoo action fit into any Rem. 40x stock? If so, the field's wide open. I have an older custom 40x (straight bolt - 721 action, I think) BR rifle in a McMillan Edge and it's the bee's knees!
  7. vudoo v22s Single shot stock recomendations

I think that's been done and, as I seem to recall, it shot pretty well. Mostly, though, think of the pride of ownership for such an elegant setup! ;)
  8. Seeing bullet holes at 300 yards with old eyes

The best solution for seeing small caliber bullet holes at long range is a target camera system. Here in central AR mirage on a hot day (which is pretty much every day, in the summer) makes seeing .22 holes at 300 yds. really problematical.
  9. New on the Market?

I had one of the Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifles I bought soon after they hit the market. It was one of 3 owned by members of my shooting group. All 3 guns were mediocre shooters off the bench no matter what we did to improve them, including an aftermarket barrel in one case. They weren't...
  10. Why Doc doesn't use the term annealed with cartridge cases

Stress relieving. Annealing means dead soft.
  11. Any CZ .22 lr shooters out there?

I have 4 CZ .22's; 2-455's (one has a Lilja barrel) and 2-452's. They all like Lapua Center-X.
  12. 25 year old primer price pic

When I first started handloading, ca 1960, the going rate for primers was $7.50 per thousand. Sounds good, right? The problem was that in those days I never had $7.50 to buy an entire brick. I bought 'em in quantities of 100-200. If memory serves, I was earning something like $2.00 per hour...
  13. Anyone Ever Have Vehicle Stolen!!

I've never had a car stolen (knock wood!) but my father's '39 Oldsmobile was stolen when I was a boy. Pretty sure it was in 1946. He got it back a week or two later. I don't remember whether or not there was any damage to it. The car was used in a robbery and abandoned by the criminals when...
  14. Scope question

The Sightron SIII 8-32 would be a good choice, probably the one with 1/8 MOA adjustments. Sightron is noted for their excellent optics, solid construction and repeatable adjustments. I have 3 of these and they are excellent. If you don't need a variable, their new 45x45 would be really hard...
  15. New 6.8x51 (.277 Cal) Military Cartridge

I saw an article on line yesterday that said the military plans to reopen a number of ammo factories that have been shut down for decades. Also in the article it said that they were buying up most -- if not all -- of the output from various civilian manufacturers. I guess this is why ammo and...
  16. Sightron 36x45 Ed help ?

I'd go for the dot. The crosshairs are very fine on these scopes and can be a little hard to find on overcast days. Anyway, the dot on my Sightron SII 36x's is only 1/8 moa, 1/10 moa on my 45x45. Both too small to obscure the target in any way but helpful in picking up the reticle in dim...
  17. Wolf ammo

Wolf centerfire ammo is Russian. Wolf .22 RF is now made by Eley, until a year or two ago it was made by Lapua and was identical to the equivalent SK brand--made on the same lines, in fact.
  18. UPS SHIPPING CHARGES

Sorry, but not so. The serial numbered part, usually but not always the lower, is considered by the Feds to be a firearm. If it's for a long gun it doesn't have to go 2nd Day Air. If it's for a handgun it does.
  19. UPS SHIPPING CHARGES

I remember when UPS instituted the "Overnight Air Only" for handguns. It was about 20 years ago. Before that, I could ship a handgun UPS Ground for about $15. When they first changed to the new policy, it cost about $25-30. Obviously it's gone up since then. A LOT.
  20. Got Scammed

Wherever possible, I pay by credit card or PayPal (then I pay PP by cc). If it's a scam I can then contest the charge. In maybe 15-20 years I've only had to do that once, and I did get my money back. Sometimes you can't do that, though, then you've just got to go by the seller's feedback...
