  1. Sometimes I Just Have to Smile

At 70 years old threads like this are near and deer (pun intended) to my heart, I love the practical application of firearm technologies post WWII. With that said I do believe that there is plenty of room for modern technology to be used properly . I built an AR15 in 6MM ARC, it's lite...
  2. Sometimes I Just Have to Smile

I tried a scope on my Marlin 444SS and found it useless. It slowed me way down, maybe I could sign up for the idiot squad and tray an LPVO on it. :p:p:p
  3. Sometimes I Just Have to Smile

When I was a kid I worked at a regulated game farm, the owner and his family were always going out West hunting and they'd take friends and guide for them. Always they shot the newest and best stuff, like sporterized Mauser and 03 rifles in 06, Marlin 336 or Winchester 94, Remington 700 ADL...
  4. WHO_TEE_WHO Rimfire Explosion

The 17 super mag I believe is a 33,000 PSI cartridge, about a standard 9 x 19 pressure. If he releases more video so we can see and hear more specifically better sound from the previous shots and a full view of the loading of the final shot that would be helpful.
  5. WHO_TEE_WHO Rimfire Explosion

At 19:23 he cuts away from the bench view in a manner that we don't see the bolt close. So I have no opinion on cause.
  6. In Colorado

Not surprising! If I write the story of my perfect rifle it would be boring, carry, carry, carry, carry, carry, carry, stored in truck, stored in truck (you get the idea), then POW, hit, then clean game. If you can hit a pop can cold bore at 200 with you varmint rig you need to get back to the...
  7. In Colorado

Years ago when I bought my 223 Howa 1500 even with a 12 twist and 40 grain VMAX, my 6MM gets a great deal of rest. It cover 99% of the shooting available in my area.
  8. Photographers here -- What are you shooting at?

The flowers this spring are really strange, not lasting very long at all.
  9. Any good gas gun 6ARC loads?

I believe you're correct in an AR, the 52,000 PSI limit of the 6 ARC has velocity restrictions. With that said it was designed for man sized targets and in that sized target works fine in my 16" out to 800 and I've seen guys with 18" to 20" barrels work out to 1,000 with the same target size...
  10. 6mm for deer and target suggestions

If your max range is 375 yards a 6MM ARC will do it w8th factory loads in an AR or a bolt action and should get extremely long barrel life as the case capacity is fairly low as is the pressure. My AR shoots the 103 ELD X really well.
  11. What Power Scpoe for 223 Varmint Gun?

I'm a fool old fart, YES in my opinion unless God comes to you to cash his paycheck advances you can have too much scope for a rifle scope combination. I put all sights on a firearm based on how I'll use them. White tail in PA I don't need a scope. Varmints, in terms of cartridge and scopes...
  12. A few 7mm questions

I have no idea how far you're going to be shooting but the 280 Remington is a great 7MM. Even better if handloaded. I'm a big believer in 2 7MM cartridges, the 7 x 57 and the 280 Remington.
  13. Pitting in a new barrel

God, has put bore scopes on earth to ruin you day!
  14. ANOTHER CHECK MARK ON THE RIGHT FOR WSMNUT - ODCR

It's always good to hear of a good vendor, this one goes in the data base!
  15. A little strength exercise this morning.

I have learned to lay of the coffee!
  16. A little strength exercise this morning.

I'll give one thing to varmints, they don't hunt me! It always seems to me that an insect and my bladder always seems to knows exactly when I'm struggling to hold point! ;) I do respect what benchrest shooters and wildcatters do, in fact their innovations have lead the way in cartridge...
  17. A little strength exercise this morning.

A great deal of work, but it always is. The only difference between my old scope mounted sporterized military rifles and my heavy barreled custom rifles is that the heavy barreled rifles will not only shoot the first shot on point of aim they will group nicely with extended rounds. The old...
  18. A little strength exercise this morning.

I'm 70 years old since the early 70's I've attended probably 200 or more competitions, that's how I know that they're not for me. A day before my strength training I took my A2 in 5.56, my M4E in 6 ARC and my 358 Norma Magnum out. The Norma was put away 24 months ago, I pulled it out of the...
  19. A little strength exercise this morning.

I agree and disagree! I agree because competition shooting requires practice and repeatable precision for many shots in controlled environments, known distances, with supporting accessories. I disagree because the practice for field shooting starts with bench work to develop a load that unlike...
