  1. 21 century vs pumpkin Why?

Ah, so more along the lines of the older bench vises. Makes sense - sorry for misreading the direction the sarcasm was headed.
  2. 21 century vs pumpkin Why?

In all fairness, Don is no spring chicken.
  3. Stripping and re-bluing Remington action

Got it - can't really comment on that part. In the case of the 10/22, I polished it and then cleared it with duracoat but it is definitely a softer material than the 700 action. Regarding aircraft stripper, oven cleaner is pretty much the same thing. I have used both to strip powder coatings...
  4. Lube Dent Chronic Problem Solved

Redding does not pinhole vent like RCBS does.
  5. Stripping and re-bluing Remington action

Not sure what Remington is using, but if it looks like the wanna be black that Ruger uses on the 10/22 try oven cleaner and a wire brush.
  6. 21 century vs pumpkin Why?

To the best of my knowledge, PMA is the only company making direct fit parts (cutters) for Nielson's turning tool. PMA is a fan of what Don did with his cutter so I would imagine they did what the could to make sure theirs worked as well if not better. I own a PMA setup. Could not be happier...
  7. 1st group, new barrel

Don't you just hate it when some dude shoots his .338 at one of your .243 bullet holes!
  8. Bullet Sorting

The least expensive 'accurate' tool that I am aware of is Holland's https://www.hollandguns.com/m7/H-GS-BC--hollands-gold-standard-bullet-comparator.html I had a shop make bushings for me that make it a bit easier to measure. While I didn't have to pay for the bushings, I could have purchsed a...
  9. Cleaning patch sizes?

I suggest you try different combinations. I may use round our square, larger or smaller, all depends on what a particular barrel wants from a fit perspective. With that, I also don't stick to caliber specific jags (sometimes I run a caliber down, e.g, 243 in a 264) with a larger patch, and...
  10. Norma Brass question? (silly most likely)

I put Norma at the same level as Hornady and say both suck for reloading. If you don't want to neck down something decent then I would go with Nosler instead. In my experience, Nosler will still have inconsistent neck thickness and shallow primer pockets, but the lot has a better chance of...
  11. Bore scoped

Had my bore scoped. Photos came out fine. Smith's administrative staff called me 4.5 years later and said it was time to have my chamber checked again. Frigging cleaning regimen is a real pain in the ass, but I did it anyway. Got that sucker up on the bench, then the Smith comes over. We chat...
  12. 6.5 CM barrel length

If you handload, unless you are trying to solve something specific from a +26" I would say don't bother. 26" or less. I run 26" barrels + brake (sorry neighbor, but I am not given .gov $200 just so my brake does not blow dirt in your face). I did try the Criterion in 28" on the 6.5 Creedmoor...
  13. defiant/ pierce action worth it???

Tag here when you write it up.
  14. New 223 Barrel?

I just finished building a 1:7, 26" Bartlein M24. Went with the 1:7 so I can run higher BC bullets at around 3,000 fps on days when I want to get out to distance with some really good wind practice. Currently going to run 77 SMK's, but I am keeping an eye on the new Berger 85.5 Hybrid.
  15. Best rings in YOUR opinion.

Best rings: Seekins Precision (in use, won't sell) Best one piece mount for hunting: Spuhr (sold - don't hunt anymore) Best one piece for precision rifle: Spuhr (sold - switched to MPA chassis so did not need the built-in level) Best one piece for the money: Masterpiece Arms (in use)
  16. defiant/ pierce action worth it???

If sub MOA, even half MOA, is your goal then don't bother with custom. If you are going for 3/8 or 1/4, then yeah take the plunge. A tuned factory action is a couple bills short of some of the custom actions. I have a couple of Defiance Machine actions. One came with and still has a burr on the...
  17. Using foam bore cleaners - how do you plug the chamber?

I bought a couple bags of these - don't think I paid as much as Midway has them for so I may have purchased them elsewhere, but it was a while ago. They hold back fluid very well. I had a barrel full of Kroil hanging vertical in a vice for days. Did not lose a single drop. I use a pick to get...
  18. Bullet pullers

The Hornady is what I have. Broke one so I picked up another. I am willing to say it is me not the puller since many have success with them. Still, inertia pullers work so well for me I have no reason to pull the Hornady out of the drawer.
  19. Bullet pullers

I have had horrible luck with collet pullers as well. I have pulled hundreds (even 200 on the same day) with one inertia puller. Some foam in the bottom to protect the bullet and a tray to dump stuff into.
