To each there own. I don't think TA17rem or ohlongarmisle are right or wrong. I've never personally hunted coyote's but being from Ohio I know how populated, or overpopulated they are. If he's hunting where I think he's hunting, his numbers probably aren't far off. And to the making a shot count and the fellows saying why don't he compete and take some of these records away....let me tell you, I know a guy, I took him to one match with me. Hadn't picked his rifle up in 3 years, had pre loaded every single round. Shot a perfect 250 with 25X's. Made his statement and never shot another match with me. He is my cousin, and he is on this site. Maybe he'll read this.
My hunting buddy since I was a kid can rarely connect on a whitetail standing still but put a whitetail at 100 yards running full tilt and he'll roll 9 out of 10. Doesn't make any sense to me.
We all grow up differently, we all practice differently, we all shoot and enjoy it. Who cares about who's better or who kills more coyote.

I told other guy in private message I did try to shoot postals one year, Hitting little dot for score not a big deal but postals took place over summer months and I had to work to pay bills. Stan Ware was my gun smith and friend he helped with postal thing as far as reading wind and load work. Lot of fun at time and much gleaned from him on that part. Even though I just shoot hunting loads I put all I can into them after all if got 1-2K rifle just as well shoot good ammo in it. I kind of think we all on same page as far as outcome, target shooters strive for one little hole and that's how I go about it shooting coyotes. LOL

I don't know ohiolongarmisle so I don't know if he's telling the truth or not. Really no need to lie about it. What I do know is that I have a friend and member of my gun club. He drives to Kansas and meets up with a couple of friends of his and they hog hunts and they are serious about it. High end rifles with high end thermals and they kill an unbelievable amount of hogs in a week-end. Numbers are just numbers be it coyotes of hogs. Keep it up and enjoy yourself.

Talking about calling coyotes were I hunt. The picture is the type of land we have here. The x in the picture is 330ish yards. The oval in the upper left of the power pole is approximately 1 1/4 miles. So it’s probably different where you hunt. I’m gonna try and give a somewhat different perspective. Some say don’t shoot runners, some say shoot em. Some say this gun isn’t big enough or this one is way too big what a waste. I’ve been calling yotes for about 50 years. I don’t dispatch large numbers, there’s been years I never went calling at all (sometimes life gets in the way ) so a question I have for some is have you ever called in multiple at the same time? If so one thing I can tell you when the gun goes off ( hopefully you knocked it down) the 2nd or 3rd or 4th that was coming in, there headed out. So if you’re to dispatch a double or a triple you’re gonna have to shoot a runner. With that said the last paragraph of 20vartarg post is spot on.

If you’re wondering the most I’ve called in at the same time is 7. Dispatched lots of doubles.
Got a triple once and it was with a 17 rem.

I've hunted all over most western states and yes each little different as far as how land lays out or amount of vegetation. As for runners I look at where I'm hunting at time and if a cripple pops up would I be able to retrieve it, if not then I don't take those shots. But now here where I live its mostly agg. land a cripple has no place to run to or hided except maybe in a pipe going under a road. I have tools for that. and as last resort I just run home and grab the dogs. otherwise, I just think twice about it, can always come back and call same critter back in again. Some stands I get doubles coming in I take the first one and if other is a big question mark once again just let it go. That's how I do things. I have taken doubles or triples and most times the others came back in after shot or just stood there for next shot, every stand is different.
Had a spot I called early season last year and had total of eight coyotes down by brushy creek (family group) and I managed to get one to break cover and took that one out. I let things get quiet and then left. I came back to same spot and called 7 in and took another. Few more nights later back at same spot but this time I put a E-caller on roof of my truck and another out in front of me. This kept their eyes off of me and out of my down wind. I then scored another coyote. By time I got done with them over time I had all but the breeding pair removed and left them for seed. A good friend taught me long time ago, keep shots to a minimum or just don't shoot if stand not right and they be just as easy to call the next time. Just way it is. No magic sounds just knowledge of coyotes and behavior. You can't google that or read from a book..

It a coyote not an elephant. A 22 mag wont bang flop a giant coyote and a 223 wont smoke a hog either... If you look close enough they are still laughing at my tiny guns...

Its not about the occasional kill, its about doing it all day long, all winter long, most aren't up to it less you are shooting from front porch. I know a buffalo rancher that shoots his buffalo in ear some place with a 22 L.R. from his pickup truck. One day I was at ranch and ask what happen to his new pickup he bought year before? It looked like he played bumper cars with it. He said oh I missed the sweet spot and the buffalo made sure he paid for his mistake. Not always goanna get that perfect in the eye shot every time. Big question no ones seems to be able to answer? How many got away because of bad hit????

I used to think I was a pretty good coyote hunter until I met a couple of real ones. I had hunted coyotes for years and hunted with some very well-known coyote hunters, and I thought I knew a lot about coyote hunting. Then I met a couple of guys who were on a whole new level—guys I was supplying bullets to.

One client, a professional coyote hunter by trade, posted 728 coyotes in a year; the other posted 582. I knew right then that there was a totally different league for guys who really know about coyote hunting.

I learned a great deal from them, but the biggest lesson I learned was: don’t ever think you know what you’re doing when it comes to coyotes. These guys both make a living killing coyotes, and both said, “Don’t ever think you know what a coyote is thinking or doing, and don’t ever think you know enough.” Coyotes always adapt and get smarter—that’s what they do.

After being with them and watching them kill seven coyotes in one day, I knew I was out of my league. Their ability to read coyotes was on a whole other level. I kidded them that I didn’t like skinning coyotes that much, and they said, “Neither do I.”

In one night on patrol in a major city in Ohio, in heavily populated neighborhoods, one can see dozens of coyotes over 20 square miles. I counted over 50 in one night. So BS theories don't mean squat to me. and a dyed-in-the-wool coyote hunter knows coyotes run river bottoms continuously, transients not just the local.
population. Since Jan 1st I've taken 29, most posted here, and how I know is I save the brass from the 17 Hornet. I just counted 30 with yesterday's casualty.Excuse me what is 80% of 30,that's really what I harvested,ROFL.
