My trigger on my Savage Axis II Precision is acting up.

It won't cock properly. It is so light that it pops the trigger prematurely. It doesn't ignite the round, it just locks the trigger from firing off the round. If I re-cock it slowly and gently it usually will work. What's wrong? I've tried adjusting/turning the spring and nothing helps. If I need a new trigger, where can I get a factory trigger. I'm not looking for an upgrade, I just want to make this rifle work again.

JARD Triggers

I have 2 Savages model 10 & 110 and they both have a JARD trigger. After installing one of the triggers, I needed to adjust it a little since it failed the bump test. Easy to adjust. I've been using them for several years now with no issues.

Usually adjusting the spring to a slightly heavier pull weight will solve the problem.
If that’s not working maybe call Savage CS.

If you have to replace the trigger you may as well upgrade. You'll be glad you did.
Yeah, probably but I just want to get my rifle up and running. I'm quite happy with the Accutrigger as it is.
Oh and I found a factory replacement for my rifle. Should be here in a few days.

As I stated in my OP, I already did that. I maxed it out and it still gave me issues.
I found a new factory replacement trigger assembly and it should be here in a couple days.
Hopefully it solves my issue.

Your action screws maybe too tight. Found this out when I used to read Savage Shooters, loosen the rear 1 a little at a time.
Yeah, I saw a video on YT that mentioned that. I torqued them to the specs they provided and no difference. I then started tightening/loosening in 5 inch pound increments less and more. None of that worked. I found a factory replacement and it should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it will solve the issue. All my other Savages (5) work fine. In fact I swapped out one from one I don't shoot very often to the one that was giving me trouble into my current rifle that I use the most and it works fine now. Go figure, huh!

There's a possibility if you had the bolt apart recently that you left the "washer" that sits between the main springs out. If not then try a full cleaning of everything and reset the trigger as heavy as possible and start over.

You could try the MCarbo kit. I changed out triggers and then took it back out, put the accutrigger back into my Axis II Precision and put the MCarbo kit in and it works wonderfully.
Cheap enough to give it try.

I have a Elftmann Trigger assy sitting in the drawer with little use.

Spray it good with carb cleaner work the trigger a few times and blow it out . Worked for me .

I think your problem lies in the action screws. Loosen them all the way-out then torque them to the specified torque specs 45 to 60 inch pounds ... I can't remember which one front or rear is 60 or 45.

Remove the action from the stock and try cycling it and see if the trigger works properly. If it does then it’s probably rubbing and binding on the stock somewhere. If so check the rear part of the trigger as that’s usually what rubs.
If it still gives you problems out of the stock then it eliminates the stock and action screws so now you can focus on just the trigger. You said you adjusted it to max pull weight and it still happened? Usually that isn’t the case, unless you’re using a lot of sideways motion when pulling the trigger.
Given what you’ve said you’ve already tried, My guess is that the trigger is hitting something in the stock and putting sideways pressure on it.

The intermediate washer is installed. I keep things pretty clean with this rifle. I clean everything after every session whether it's 20 rds or 200. As for resetting the trigger for as heavy as possible, that's the problem. I've tried setting it to heavy and it just doesn't work. I got the new trigger in yesterday and it works but now I can't really soften the trigger pull very much. From about 4.5 pounds down to about 2.5 using my brand new Wheeler pull gage. I'm okay with that but it sure was nice when I had basically a hair trigger.

I thought the same thing but the problem still persists in/out of the stock. I don't think I'm squeezing the trigger sideways. This problem is a new issue (relatively). I have almost 3000 rounds through this rifle and this problem has just recently shown up, within the last 500 or so. Could it be the adjusting spring is worn out? It's not like I treat this rifle like a redheaded stepchild, in fact quite the opposite. I keep it pretty durn clean and lubed from the muzzle to the butt of the stock and from top to bottom. I got the new trigger assembly in the other day and it works but for some reason I can't get the trigger pull any less than about 2.5 lbs. The original trigger was set at almost a hair trigger maybe a little stiffer. This new one feels a lot stiffer but it works repeatedly after about 40 or so tests. This is so frustrating!!! What changed all of the sudden???

Yep, did as you state. I've tried tighter and looser. No change. It's on an MDT Oryx chassis. The only thing I've changed is I put a Criterion 24" competition bull barrel on it. Everything worked fine for 3000+ rds until about 500 rds or so. Stock (original Savage action). I got my new factory Savage replacement trigger in the other day and now everything works as it should other than the trigger pull seems quite firm to me, about 2.5+ pounds compared to what it was with the "old" trigger when it worked just fine. This after adjusting it to the lightest pull I could achieve.
Man!!! This is frustrating!!! I so badly want somebody's advice to work but so far I've tried all of them before I even posted this. I'm no gunsmith or prodigy of any kind But I do have an engineering background (sort of).

Could it be the sear is worn out? What's that black thing called that holds the trigger in place just before you squeeze the trigger? It's kind of like a lever, not the trigger it's self. I have to push down a "pad" and squeeze the trigger at the same time to remove the bolt. I don't recall the name of that thing. Could it be that one or the other or both are worn out?

P.S. Went to Gun Shack and looked at the parts list for Savage triggers. I guess that "black thingy" IS the sear! Duh!
So, my question is, could the actual trigger or sear or both be worn out? Could either of these be the issue? Is it fixable without having to buy anything?

Hmm... sounds interesting! I'll look into it! Thanks for the link!
