which one, CZ, Bergara, RimX or voodoo

Vudoo is a waste… the original company (and management) was sold and new owner bankrupted it, stole customers’ deposits without delivering rifles, failed to pay critical vendor. … blah blah blah. This new owner reorganized and relocated to Oklahoma and repeated same incompetence and shady business activity. Snipers Hide has a few related thread of the ongoing drama. Not to mention that apparently all manufacturing and assembly of recent Vudoo rifles was/is outsourced. FAIL

There are several manufacturers introducing high-end quality rifles with better quality, innovation, and customer support.

CZ is the most popular option, especially for the price value.

Definitely for new OK Vudoos but old UT Vudoos were awesome! MPA is making a great rifle now which is basically a 360. Bush is working on some new actions too.

Agree… original Vudoo Gen 1 were solid.

Mike Bush has started a new company, Delane Development Group, and he has continued the evolution of rimfire action design from his original Vudoo actions. There is a good thread on Snipershide that started in 2017 with his formation of new business. It has lots of details on his new actions that are close to commercial release.

I’ve got 2 vudoo’s a (Gen 1 & 2), 5 CZ 457s. Of these 7 guns only one is still wearing the barrel it was built with (CZ 457 Vmt Chassis MTR). I like to shoot long range precision matches out to 400yds. A few times a year I attend a ARA match with my ELR guns to work on my form.
If I were starting from scratch for ELR, I’d buy a 457 action and a 1.1” Lilja or Shilen barrel blank and take it to a smith to chamber with a nevius reamer for .030 engraving and finished at 26”. Mount it into a MDT chassis and shoot Lapua LR

I bought a Bergara barreled action with the heavy MTU barrel. I chose this platform because it’s a 700 type receiver. I put it in a stock I had and put in a TT Diamond trigger. It’s my first 22lr precision rifle. Definitely watch the videos on the comparisons between rifles. I do my own smithing on my rifles. I have two lathe’s and I am proficient enough to do barrel work and most of the blueprint stuff. The bolt cycling issues, difficult closing and bolt shroud rocking, are real. The barrel tenon is metric, 27mm 3.0 pitch. This is not a terrible choice but we’re in America and our lathes are imperial and it changes the process of threading and adds a level of expertise to the barrel fitting operation. I can do metric threading but if you might plan to have a barrel fitted vs the prefit option, it’s definitely worth telling your gunsmith what they’re about to encounter. My barrel was threaded at the muzzle and the muzzle bore expanded at the threaded length. I removed the threads and crowned the muzzle. The pins for the trigger and the ejector go in one way only and pay attention to the orientation before you disassemble them.
All that out of the way. My rifle shoots good. I’m waiting on bottom metal to arrive so I can actually use the magazine. I’ve had it mounted in a benchrest stock and single feeding it with the 3D printed feed insert I bought from one of the guys here. It shoots SK Rifle Match between 1 moa and 1/2 moa at worst. I’m learning a lot about rimfire. It’s very finicky compared to center fire.

Yup that’s Bush’s new company. I have Vudoo number 10 that’s still running great. I am one of the two original Vudoo team shooters so lots of love for the old company but the new and how they treated people so far I will keep my distance.

That’s a good thread for people to watch for stuff from his new company.

I have a CZ MTR and my son recently got a Bergara. We will be side by side in a couple weeks and I am curious how the Bergara compares........ We'll see. I'm the better shot. He's got too much combat bang bang shoot faster in his trigger finger........:p

I have both Cz Mtr and Bergara b14 trainer. My Bergara gets the nod of the two. I have other accurate Rimfires such as Anschutz54 and 2500x full custom in rotex stock. Maybe I got lucky but my Bergara comes very close to outshooting those as well.

Do you currently have a DESIRE for any of the rifles you've mentioned? If you do, you probably won't be happy until you finally acquire one, regardless of how well whatever you choose first performs.

My wife is shooting a CZ457 that started life as a 17HMR in a varmint stock. Now it's in a MDT XRS stock with a 22LR Whidden Criterion 20" stainless barrel. The trigger spring was changed out with one from McMaster-Carr. She's very happy with it.

I'm currently shooting a Utah Vudoo with 22" Bartlein MTU barrel in a MPA BA chassis with Trigger Tech Elite Hunter trigger.

There's enough tinkering trying to find specific lots of ammo that each like to shoot that I don't want to have to tinker with the rifles.

We are shooting long gong matches (300 yards).

All that said - I keep looking at the MPA website and the Matrix Pro Rimfire rifle...

I have a CZ 455, Bergara B14R, and a Vudoo. The CZ I have had for years and it shoots pretty well for what I paid. The others are more like a real, full sized bolt action in look and feel. They are a Remington 700 footprint so triggers, stocks, etc can be interchanged. The Vudoo is definitely the nicest of them all, but I have a lot of fun with the Bergara and shoot it the most.

The CZ 457 MTR is a nice rifle to consider as well.

CZ for budget, Vudoo for the extra expense. This is a CZ457 with a Lilja Barrel and KRG stock. Trigger Tech Trigger. It shoots. Target at 50 yards. Rain at the time.

The New MPA Rimfire Elite is not a 360. It is a two lug design with some additional improvements and better QC. Anyone running the two actions side by side will feel an obvious difference.

I built a RimX a few years ago, Jewel trigger, Shilen ratchet, KRG chassis, Sightron 45x45 scope. It is truly an amazing rifle and a real pleasure to shoot. However, there are a few drawbacks to the RimX 1) it is a "controlled feed" action with a stationary extractor, so you can not single-feed it, it has to be magazine fed, 2) the RimX magazines are extremely expensive ($125/ea.), but they are truly works of art. The other big plus is that it has a Rem 700 footprint, so there are tons of aftermarket accessories available.

Howdy all,
I know everyone has their own opinion... but if you were to go buy one on a middle class budget what would you get???
I'am all about aftermarket stuff to tune them up so it can be work in progress!!
I guess I'm asking is what would be a good platform to start with???
Thx
My $.02 worth. Attached is one of my Bergara B14R rimfire rifles. These will shoot (out of the box) with good match ammo. Only change I've made on this rifle is a Jewell trigger. My 2500x doesn't shoot much better! In my opinion a pretty nice rifle for $1,100 bucks!

Hugo vs Mercedes… sounds a bit Elitist.

I believe the question is
“What level of accuracy do you want/need from a rimfire and at what distance?”

“Does $4,000 - $6,000 for a Custom/Premium sound reasonable for a fully kitted 22lr rifle (including optic) for your intended purpose/use?” This price tag is for serious competitors or deep pockets.

If $2,000 - $3,000 (fully kitted) is more in your budget then CZ 457 or Bergara 14R is a perfect fit. Don’t forget that Savage just announced its new Model 110 Rimfire. This is still real $$$ for the average shooter… a mortgage payment.

Edit: Tikka T1X 22 should be included in the budget friendly rifle list.

How many Hugo’s do you see win international or national championships?
Truth is most modern rifles will out shoot most nuts behind the trigger..
