105 sierra

So far I have only shot about 30 of them, all jammed +.010" in a 6mmARC and 6mmGT (both bolt). About comparable to a 105 Hybrid in accuracy for both rifles and they ran a little faster with the same recipe in the 6mmARC (Varget, 450, Lapua, @ + .010" jam).

I plan to try jumping them this weekend in the 6mmARC.

Not a real good test though as both rifles (GT and ARC) have new barrels that aren't past 100 rounds.

Received mine the other day and just loaded 10. Was also loading my normal match rounds that are 105gr Berger Hybrid over 28.8gr LVR in Starline brass.

After I loaded my 20 for this week's match, I loaded the 10 Sierra w/o touching the dies as I read they were supposed to be loaded the exact same. The Sierra finished shorter BTO and longer OAL than the Berger. So I can do a direct comparison in this configuration.

Now I am anxious to try these.

If you would report back when you test them in your ARC, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I have not read anything about loading the 105 SMK the same as the Hybrid. I have seen some threads a while back describing doing that with the Aeromatch 105's. The 105 SMK, IMHO, is not even close to the Hybrid in any measurement besides weight. The SMK is one sleek SOG, and I always considered the Hybrid to be a cruise missile.

I have been focusing on using Varget and H4895 in the new ARC barrel (PVA Osprey, 1-7, 25", Med Palma). The Hybrid and SMK both shoot very good and 5 shot groups are comparable. Still figuring this rifle out.

At 600 yards yesterday, the mirage was murder. 50° at 1000 hours during set-up and 70° by 1115 hours. The paper targets were dancing, so we moved to steel. I had 2-5 shot groups with the SMK's (the only SMK's I put on steel) both average under 1/2 MOA. The cool ground and hotter air was not going to allow any paper target foolishness. Just comparing yesterday (not a good comparison IMO), the SMK out shot the Hybrid using the same recipe on steel.

A better test will be when I get back around to testing the SMK in my 6mmGT (Origin action and Brux barrel) and my 6×47L (Surgeon action and Bartlein barrel). Either of these rifles are easier to shoot than the 6mmARC I have. First world problem for sure.

The comparison of loading them the same was in reference to the MKX line of bullets which are a basic copy of a Matchking with an expanding hunting version of the same bullet. In 6mm the two bullets are the 107 MK and an MKX version the same weight.

The 105 MK has a different ogive than the 107 MK and the 105 Hybrid.

Sorry to disagree but what I read was recently posted and I just read it 10 days ago before I ordered the SMK 105. The posting I read was a direct comparison between the Berger Hybrid and the New Sierra 105gr Match King. Not the MKX or the SMK107gr.

The whole intent of the story was how does the Sierra match up to the Hybrid. So what I loaded up with the SMK is also a direct example of what was posted in that article.

I will do a quick search of my history and see if I can find it again. If so I will post a link to it here.

Ahhh, gotcha, I was referring to Sierra's claim... I have no idea what other people shooting both bullets have claimed.

The reason for doing the search was because I was out of the Bergers and had heard talk of the new 105gr Sierra's. What I wanted to know was is there an opportunity to find something that will shoot as well as the Bergers for when they are unavailable again. I took a chance and purchased a box and will see for myself.

From what I quickly observed from this loading is that because they are shorter OAL they are not seated as deep into the case so I may need to bump up the powder charge.

I hope it works out for all of us. Not a bad start so far.

Was going to shoot these today but the weather here in Wisconsin turned to Do-do. Next available opportunity won't be until Friday.

I too am shooting these thru a 6ARC Shilen 4 Groove, 28" barrel.
